Trump stiffed the southwestern city to the tune of half a million, complicating his return to New Mexico

Former President Donald Trump had a hard time finding a spot for his Halloween rally in Albuquerque, New Mexico rally, as unpaid bills came back to haunt his campaign.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reported that the campaign’s original plans to use the Albuquerque Convention Center were dashed, due in part to an unpaid bill of nearly $445,000 from a 2019 rally.

If you’re not going to pay your bills, we’re just not going to entertain you using city facilities, and that’s the way it should be,” Albuquerque mayor Tim Keller told the outlet.

It’s worse than just not paying the bills, they’re trying to pass off the costs to the Federal Government.

The Trump campaign claimed in a statement to Public Integrity last year that it was not responsible for the costs to cities, arguing that “all billing inquiries should go to the Secret Service.” But Secret Service officials said they “receive no funding from Congress to reimburse municipal governments for the local public safety protection they request,” according to the report.

I have always failed to see why people view Donald Trump as anything other than a con man.

      Because of racism.

If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.

They’re either rubes who are indoctrinated into the reactionary cinematic universe or grifters who pretend he’s authentic to exploit the gullible.

Yeah, the producers of The Apprentice, who made him look successful, even when he was nearly bankrupt, deserve a lot more of the blame than they’ve been given so far.

That’s exactly what Trump is. A bottom feeder of such exquisite lack of morals that he absorbs blame. So much blame should be put on so many other agencies, people, etc but because Trump runs around providing news agencies with enough rage bait.

455,000 is 0.0455% of 1,000,000,000. Not a big deal to someone with allegedly multiple billions.

I’m creeping up an a million net worth. That is like me trying to stiff someone for 455 dollars. An unexpected 455 dollar expense is a tiny bit annoying. This wasn’t even an unexpected expense. This is like me stiffing the guy I paid to power wash my house and complaining he won’t come back next time. The city should sue. 455k is worth the lawsuit in my opinion. Plus damages since the cost likely prevented the city from doing other important things.

      This is bigly sad.

Mark Cuban has been addressing this with logic. You only sell gold sneakers and shitty coins when you need the money.

The city should have sued on Jan 21, 2020. If they sue now, and Trump wins the election, they would never see a dime because the SC would make sure to squash all lawsuits. Selling it to a debt collector was probably the best move for them. They only see a fraction of what they are owes, but its better than nothing

What debt collector would be stupid enough to try and get repayment from Trump.

I’d watch that episode of dog the bounty hunter. Though I’d probably go in to it expecting disappointment.

Alternatively, they could put a lien on his properties.

At this point I really think that he does need all the cash he can find.

That said, even when he was still flush he was notorious for stiffing the little guy.

He’s hated in Atlantic City because he ripped off so many small businesses.

It’s him playing mobster; the Mafia never pays for anything, so why should he?

Shouldn’t Donnie T. just be able to cut them a check since he’s so fabulously wealthy? I mean, he says he’s ultra rich and the best businessman ever, so this ought to be something he can just immediately address, right?

Personally I wouldn’t trust any sort of payment from that guy. I’d accept payment but still refuse new business from him until about 6 weeks after payment is received. That should provide ample time to verify the check doesn’t bounce, etc.

I don’t know why anybody still rents venues to this deadbeat unless they’re drinking his koolaid or expect concessions to make up his unpaid bill.
