  • Traffic court, while yes it’s a court of law, is a bit more relaxed. Judges have far more leeway and they have a long docket.

You’re not the only one being seen and the judge wants to go home on time.

Be honest, courteous. In the rare event that the police officer starts saying things that are completely egregious, plead the fifth and ask for a continuance. Tell the judge that these facts are new to you and you’ll need time to assert a defense.

The judge may ask what you thought the charges were. Say something along the lines of, “Without waiving my fifth amendment right to self incrimination, my understanding is that I’m being charged for driving with an expired license.”

But this should be rare. Judges don’t like surprises either.

Again, remember that this is traffic court. Everyone is busy. If you’re a dick, they won’t have patience for you.

  • The secrecy of this is the problem. We all know back then that Trump was a likely Russian asset.

I could envision, say, Biden saying “While, yes, we have a shortage here in the USA, other countries are doing worse. So I’ve authorized the CDC to ship a few pallets to Russia since they are having a tough time sourcing materials. Because that’s what good neighbors do. So I’m asking our people to be extra diligent, rolling back any unnecessary travel and meetings until we have restocked our tests.”

But we all know this was quid pro quo for Trump.

  • Probably very little.

I’m not up to speed on what Twitter is doing these days outside of what’s reported here on lemmy.

Unless Musk starts saying things like “Polls are closing early so don’t bother voting because Trump won” or things that will suppress votes, his actions and tweets are going to be categorized as political free speech, which has broad interpretation in the US. Sad, but true.

We, as well as our government officials, should remember that Twitter is not the public town square. It’s a dumpster fire that is owned by a private entity that permits users to throw their shit into. That private entity is within their right to do whatever they want within the confines of the law.
