After being excommunicated from the GOP, Geoff Duncan is trying for a comeback on the Democratic ticket

In the Georgia governor’s race, Geoff Duncan’s candidacy tests American politics as much as it tests his political appeal.

The former Republican lieutenant governor of Georgia is a current Democratic candidate for governor, with former Biden official and Atlanta ex-mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms currently holding the lead in Tuesday’s Democratic primary. A Republican is still favored to win, with billionaire Rick Jason up against the secretary of state, Brad Raffensperger, and the lieutenant governor, Burt Jones.

Though his candidacy might not prove successful on 19 May, in offering himself to the public, Duncan is asking Democratic voters to consider what the off-ramp for Republican leaders should look like in the waning days of the Trump era. Can it be as simple as switching parties and rearranging one’s political values?

I certainly don’t trust them in any form of leadership. They need to find ways to make amends for the harm they caused before they should expect any level of power or responsibility given to them.

I hope GA can flip blue this cycle & stay there for 2028… But I’ve lost so much faith in the electorate I’ll not hold my breath.

    Fuck. Off.

consider what the off-ramp for Republican leaders should look like in the waning days

How about fixing your own shit after you handed your party to insane assholes? This should not be allowed under any circumstances.

Also, how about he considers what’s best for the country? Like, what, I’m supposed to care if a bunch of Republican leaders end up unemployed? Worse things happen to better people all the time in the world they have built.

RIght? There is zero self awareness here. They admit they messed up but they still want to play? So they want a participation trophy is that it? That sounds pretty familiar. There was a big thing not too long ago about people who hated participation trophies, but I forgot who it was… oh yeah REPUBLICANS.

    For fucks sake…

When Republicans get “too extreme” the moderate ones need to stay over there and drag them back to the left some.

If they “become Dems” by slapping a D at the end of their name, they drag the Dem to the right.

Fuck this piece of shit and every other coward that’s doing this.

All it does is move the Overton window right, we don’t need another round of neoliberalism

It should look like retiring from politics. Y’all sunk your party, stay away from the others.

The off ramp looks like you retiring from politics and join the workforce. Use those bootstraps if you have to

Seriously, them and all their rich friends can go give fancy speeches about nothing and raise money for museums or animal shelters for retired dressage horses or some other rich weirdo thing and that actually would be doing public service in a more real way than they ever have before

He won’t get elected, it’s a moot point.

A republican with a D by their name will never beat a Republican with an R by their name.

He’s running in the dem primary because a progressive with a D by their name could beat a Republican in the general. Not saying they will, just that they’d have a chance.

And this asshole would rather have a foaming at the mouth maga win then a progressive. So he’s running in the d primary to stop progress.

It’s textbook neoliberalism. He’s not trying to win the general, he’s trying to break the only other option for it.

“I think the audience of receptive Republicans is a lot bigger than what most folks would think in the Republican party,” Duncan said. “It’s not fun to have to defend Donald Trump.”

    W.T.A.F?!

any time I think there just might be some minor redemption for these ghouls, their inner bootlicker congeals and oozes out of their putrid, flapping face-hole.

why did you defend this narcissistic, child raping, snake-oil pimping, murderous megalomaniac in the first place? it certainly wasn’t fun for any of his victims for decades and isn’t fun now. fuck all the way off, you useless sycophantic piece of shit.

The “waning days” are not waning fast enough. Too much time will pass and we will forget all of these monstrous people did and said all those horrible things.

Notice how the article subtly carries water for the liberals/fascists by only mentioning Bottoms (a liberal) as the opposition, while leaving out any progressive or leftist ones.

The effective opposition to the fascists would be somebody like Jason Esteves (of the candidates whose names I recognize, anyway), not Bottoms.

The offramp is to put your own party on trial for how heinous you have let it become.

Good luck. There is a strong blue voter base surrounding the counties outside of Atlanta that already have their ticket picked.
