    So like the FBI/CIA/NSA??

Seeing this Ruth Bader Ginsburg style neoliberal lamentation comparing the US to the Nazis as if Nazism wasn’t as homegrown to the US as it was to Germany… and that we need to have faith in the system and reform is getting really old. Do these reformists NOT feel like they wasted a lifetime fighting on terms that the other side would never truly honor even when the reformists resoundingly won power? If they don’t they are dangerously foolish.

Dana Leigh Marks failed like so many others to understand the nature of the fight here, I don’t see how that lionizes her, same as with RBG.

“What kills me, as a lawyer, is that Trump turns everything on its head and blows through clearly established legal precedent as if it doesn’t exist. Fealty to precedent is the core of our legal system.”

If there’s a silver lining for her, it’s that she predicts the administration’s embrace of chaos will ultimately backfire.

Why was this kind of inveitable fail state to neoliberalism a strategic surprise to her? The last several decades of US politics could have lead nowhere else. Chef’s kiss that she has misguided hope that the chaos of this administration will lead to them having less authoritarian control, classic Chuck Shumer sense of grit and fight here clearly.

“If you build by chaos, even if you’re right in what you construct,” she quipped, “it’s going to crumble.”

Edit ok I don’t maybe I am being obtuse here and it isn’t a fair read on this detail, the article doesn’t really give her space on the point, I guess though I am existentially upset with this kind of mindset of how to fight back against fascism. What did my parents generation learn from my grandparents generation??? What did couching all of this very ultimately base struggle against hate in abstract legal terms do for us when the chips actually came down onto the table?

waves Hi me here, wanting to have a future so can we not have that? …and what if it doesn’t crumble Dana, what if it is a fire that grows and spreads? What happens then? What lessons are there even worth drawing for younger generations from your fight that aren’t hopelessly cynical?

“I have seen my entire career destroyed by Trump in six months,” said Marks, reflecting on the state of her profession while sipping coffee near her home in Marin county
