In fact was a bit surprised seeing this headline in the first place, as SUNY and CUNY tend to fly below the radar (i.e., wouldn’t usually need to take a stance on a divisive issue) but you’re right that it’s likely pressure from wealthy alumni.
Wasn’t Seinfeld a Queens College CUNY alumnus? I guess there’s no reason they wouldn’t donate to NYU as well, just didn’t know there was a connection there.

It’s considered like tier 2 elite. It’s not an ivy league, but it’s up there.
