138·10 days agoThese are Kentuckians calling a Republican to complain. They are probably not trying to vote for Mamdani. Would be interesting to know, though.

We’ve got a big one here in Seattle with both mayor and attorney general being up for grabs. It’s looking so far like the far more progressive (but not especially experienced) candidate will win for mayor. We’ll see soon.

112·25 days agoThere has never been a true, nationwide general strike in the United States, though a series of post-World War II work stoppages remembered as the “great strike wave of 1946” mobilized five million American workers demanding leaders to address economic instability and untenable working conditions.
In its aftermath, congress cracked down with the Taft-Hartley act, a legislation prohibiting a broad range of union tactics, including calling for political strikes. The 1947 law is still in place, despite repeated attempts to repeal it.
Oh, imagine that.

How is anybody surprised by this? They started this sort of international campaign of spying on, kidnapping, and otherwise cracking down on their own citizens decades ago.
I was first informed of the practice by a Chinese friend over 20 years ago. Of course they still do it, and it will be worse now than ever before with how technology has evolved, and with how further entrenched their authoritarian government has become.
