    Not sure what the real difference or benefit is here, but my phone app (google, but not pixel) already labels calls as “likely fraud” or “likely spam”.

    You would have to answer the call for this to be useful, no?

      If it functions like the headline suggests;

      It’s for when you’re already on the phone with them, if they start asking for your name, address and social security number the systems says “scam detected”.

    Telecoms need to do it at the network level. You can effectively DDOS someone by a system that calls or texts them

      They do, just for some reason not effectively. Like, blocking the VoIP providers that allow scammers would dry all that up.

      Weird thing is, this just drives more people to not use voice calls. They’re killing their own racket. (Although long-term, likely phones will be all IP with no carrier-managed services.)

      Yeah what the fuck. It listens in to your conversations and alerts when you it detects a potential scam.

    I will only be impressed when Google forwards said scam caller to AI Alzheimer’s Granny and wastes all their time. Only then will I applaud. It is past time to fight back.

    Carrion by the Divest team works pretty well as a FOSS spam blocking solution in my experience. Another factor is I changed my number a few years back and I dont give it out to anyone unless necessary. I bought a “free” Sim from a company called FreedomPop for when I need to give out a number and I dont want to share my real number. I keep the Sim off Unless I need a verification text.
