But this thread is full of people saying that they think he meant it literally and people believe it literally. And I think, although I could be wrong, that is what the top level commenter is getting at.

They’ll believe whatever suits them to prop up their delusional world view. And they’ll refuse to acknowledge any facts that contradict it.

Truthfully, I believe there are “fine [yet moronic] people on both sides” of this thing. Religions seem to serve both hypocrites and idiots alike.
