Why is it legal for Trump to short stocks, then bet against them? I mean he gets a shitload of money. But what about the common folk?

It’s not legal. It’s just that the people who enforce the law are fascist fucks who like him so they choose not to do their jobs.

    1. Sitting US president has complete legal immunity.
    2. The entire elite class in the US is effectively legally immune.

This is a fascist country. The rulers are above the law. We inferiors must obey anything they say is the law.

Because the wealthy run the country and control the legislators who pass the laws. They don’t want enforcement, so there is no funding for enforcement even if the laws exist on the books to keep the middle class and poor in check.

Because the insider trading laws have a specific carve out for elected federal officials. It’s crazy, but true.

Just checked. Apparently that was closed in 2012!
The issue now is that enforcement of insider trading laws is highly selective. Nobody important gets charged or even investigated for it.

Yeah Obama stomped that fuckin bullshit out. Now only the spouses of congressmen/women can get rich from insider trading.

It’s not legal but the people who have the influence to do it usually don’t see consequences. Laws are for the poor, not the rich.

If you’re a jockey in a horse race, and you bet against your horse then throw the race that’s called race fixing. Now apply the same reasoning to financial markets where he’s making the decisions about who wins and who loses. And for the record, that goes for every politician, governors, congress critters, all of them. Just because it’s legal, doesn’t make it not ethically criminal.
