There are plenty of words that can be used to insult someone, if your intention is to bully them. You don’t need to inflict collateral damage to insult one person. The English language is very flexible. Giving up a simple word is an act of respect.

Didn’t Scandinavian countries institute forced sterilization of disabled individuals in the early 20th century? Weren’t children born in antiquity with intellectual disabilities abandoned and/or left exposed to die?
you may be interested to know that (perceived, implied, or misattributed) disability and racial / ethnic discrimination have significant overlap in the last couple hundred years. fascinating to me to see a lot of posters on this thread claiming antifacism, who don’t understand how ableism and eugenics movements were intended to target both people with disabilities and “undesirable” minorities, often by conflating those groups.
on a more personal note, of all the shit one of my kids has experienced, the use of r-slur seems to have particularly bothered him. FOR YEARS.
