Quality of life is a major factor in where Americans choose to work, live and make major purchases including homes. These states are the nation's worst.
Um. Yes. It fucking SUCKS to be a woman, LGBTQ+ + community member, or a minority here in Texas. Good luck if you’re all 3.
This state is a steaming pile of shit and a blight on America. I wish it would secede, but only after the government offers refugee status to those of us who are sane and want to leave.
Then Texas can take its misogynistic, racist, bigoted, xenophobic self and go create its own country. And it can take Florida with it!
I mean, even if you don’t care about basic human rights: it just sucks to be in texas. I try to avoid using bullshit terms like “third world nation” but… texas wishes its power grid was that of what they think a “third world nation” is.
Agreed. I was here for the 2021 Snowpocalypse. Bruh, idk how it was in more rural or northern parts of Texas, but in San Antonio the amount of snow was laughable for shutting the major metropolitan area down like it did.
I was on call for my job and I had to go in three times, and other than under the overpasses where the snow melted and then froze, driving was a non-issue. And yet…businesses were shut down while we all suffered through the rolling blackouts.
My husband and I were lucky, we were getting 15 mins of electricity every hour or so. Other friends were getting 3-5 mins sporadically. I could at least boil our eggs to eat throughout the week.
And now with this heat wave, all over the place ERCOT is advising Texans to keep the thermostat at 80. And certain areas have gone through more rolling blackouts because the grid can’t sustain the AC draw. I’m flabbergasted at this state.
Tangential, but a couple years back I got trapped in Dallas on a connection. Basically as I get off the plane at DFW the entire airport is going insane, people are screaming at every single ticket counter and courtesy booth, people are bracing bathroom doors because they want to sleep in there, etc. I do some googling and figure out that the expectation is to ground flights because of bad weather and maybe one in every ten planes was taking off. Except… DFW is like 60 degrees on a December afternoon and, destination wise, only one or two states are getting hammered (albeit, one of them is mine…).
So they basically shut down EVERY flight that night on the mere threat of snow. I decided to not fight people for spots on planes the next morning and just take a 36 hour layover and was literally in short sleeves in December on my way to the rental car area. While DFW was afraid of a winter weather advisory… Was chatting with the family I shuttled to their hotel that my plane was never going to take off but basically every other one should have.
I will always mock how unprepared ORD is for being Chicago. But at least they actually need snow to shut down for snow.

Too cold? Too hot? Too windy? No power for you!
