New York City is preparing to welcome Zohran Mamdani, a democratic socialist and member of the New York City Democratic Socialists of America, into office as mayor. Ahead of the highly anticipated inauguration, we sit down with NYC-DSA’s co-chair Grace Mausser to discuss the goals of the incoming administration and next steps for the volunteer-powered campaign apparatus that helped propel Mamdani to City Hall. “Just getting a mayor into office, while impressive and very exciting, is not enough,” says Mausser. “The reason we rallied behind Zohran is because he is committed to building our project.”
I think it depends on the will of the people. Politics is not a one day event, it happens everyday so the actual question is will motivated Zohran supporters continue to help the momentum continue by holding city council accountable or not?
I would think that they will be more motivated than most voters after an election since Zohran is offering tangible things that are achievable and actually help the people who put him in office.
I totally agree with you, I’ve been reading about what he’s doing and even thought it’s only been a day it’s very exciting and uplifting!
Yes I think it will take a lot of grassroots pressure on the rest of the government as he will have a lot of moneyed interests creating lots of headwinds for him.
