The manufacturers actually quite like offloading the challenge of selling cars to the dealerships. They force the dealerships to buy their inventory on loan, and reap quite the profit. I remember that one manufacturer made a full third of its profit solely by the interest paid by dealerships who have vehicles sitting on the showroom floor.
