Have to use Windows for work (I’ve asked), the ads have been getting worse and worse on my work laptop. Today got a game ad notification… That’s clearly too far, right? Like I have to clear notifications, so I have to see it
CentOS isn’t better? Or those fedora based distros.
Debian is perfectly fine. At one point it ran something like 50~60% of all web servers. And they’ll never pull the rug from under your feet!
CentOS is dead.
AlmaLinux lives though…
For now.
Nope.

Official info here: https://www.redhat.com/en/blog/centos-stream-building-innovative-future-enterprise-linux
“CentOS Linux has truly helped to make RHEL and the supporting communities better, and with CentOS Stream, we intend to continue this drive to make Linux innovation faster and more collaborative.”
Stream defies the point of CentOS, it was supposed to be a rock solid server, not something on the bleeding edge.
Well, I do love bleeding edge, that’s why I use it. As I run all dockerized, all my services will keep running unless Redhad becomes so stupid to break docker packages on the main CentOS Stream distro.
I’d never run a production environment that requires HA and FT like that. But, I run Windows as a desktop environment, so we we all have our own thing :D
For production environment, I would just pay for a Kubernetes cluster, so I don’t even need to worry about the OS. It all depends, if you need a Debian (much better than Ubuntu yeah) then do it, but I normally prefer running it all under docker apps, so the OS only needs to be able to run docker. That’s why I do CentOS Stream 8.
isn’t Redhat killing CentOS?
is there any other Fedora based distros worth mentioning? just go with plain Fedora.
No, CentOS is still alive, it just changed to rolling release, and they created Rocky to keep the old CentOS release philosophy. I still love CentOS and always use it, stream 8 has more support than stream 9.
