Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is your opinion of online moderators? Do you think of them as an ally or an adversary?English
3·3 years agoExactly. I’m a mod in a few subreddits, the biggest of which is /r/Showerthoughts. People don’t notice our existence unless we interact with them directly, and you rarely interact with users unless to ban them or to remove their content. So it is expected to be hated.

Yeah I posted this 2 years ago. The way “Active” sorting works in Lemmy, is you see the posts with recent comments. Someone commented on this, pushing it back to the front page.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Has anyone else been trying to break their reddit-era habit of downvoting?English
141·3 years agoHackerNews has an interesting approach: You can’t downvote comments unless you reach a certain amount of “Karma”, and you can’t downvote posts at all, you can “flag” them, meaning you think they don’t belong here. Flagging doesn’t affect the vote count, but massive flagging does make the post appear lower in the feed, and alerts mods.
This, alongside the tight moderation and zero-tolerance towards flame wars in the comments makes HackerNews one of the best places on the internet imho.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Has anyone else been trying to break their reddit-era habit of downvoting?English
51·3 years agoSame. For me, upvote = adding something to the conversation. That’s why I upvote most comments I come across, and rarely downvote people.

1·3 years agoI’m on Android. Maybe this is default browser behavior on Android that doesn’t exist on iOS.

wefwef@lemmy.world•is there a way to directly share an image rather than a link?English
3·3 years agoI mean I can do it. I tap and hold, and I see a “Share Image” option. Are you sure you aren’t trying to share a thumbnail image from a link? Go to !pics@lemmy.ml and try it.
Edit: Wait, it also works on link thumbnails. Not sure why it doesn’t for you.

82·3 years agoI mean sure posts about Reddit makes us seem like the bitter ex, but they are to be expected, since it’s the only thing all Lemmy users have in common: Being ex-Redditors. It will stop naturally with time.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Other than blue bubbles, why do you use iPhone?English
5·3 years agoComparing iPhone to “Android” isn’t fair, because people conveniently compare it to the lowest end. Compare the iPhone 14 Pro Max to the S23 Ultra for example, a phone from a respected company at the same price range. And it isn’t “luck”. Just a quick Google search will give you the high-end Android devices currently.
