They may not have the gavels yet, but House Democrats are laying the groundwork for a number of investigations into Donald Trump should they win control of Congress in November.
Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Calif. — who’s set to chair the House Oversight Committee in a Democratic majority — told MS NOW that his team is “already preparing and gearing up.”
“We’ve got a team on Epstein, we have a team on [Trump] family corruption, we have a team on DHS and ICE,” Garcia said. “Those teams are actively working on preparation, letters, research.”
You are insane if you think Trump will see any repercussions. At all.
You’re the problem. Politicians are lazy and greedy. If you tell them that you expect them to ignore us, and we’ll accept it, then that’s what they’ll do, and go back to their favorite pastime, insider trading.
Tell them that you expect them to punish all of MAGA, or they will suffer the same fate. They are either on our side or they aren’t, and we’re keeping track.
That’s what you should be posting. Not cowardly excuses.
Trump is 100% going to pardon himself. And I have little confidence that the courts will stop him. They will talk about history and tradition when it suits them, but I can totally see them making an exception for yet another unprecedented action.
You can’t pardon yourself. No president had done it, there is no precedent, we don’t have to accept it because a monster like Trump says so. Period.
And if he does manage to take away all options for punishing him? He will spawn dozens of assassins who will be gunning for him at every moment for the rest of his life. He will have to fear snipers, poison, inside jobs, rpgs, bombs, etc. every minute of his life, which will be terrifying for a coward like him. And hopefully, someone will succeed.
No president has done it and it certainly was not the intent of the pardon power. But it is not explicitly forbidden. Hopefully if he tries it it gets ruled against, but after SCOTUS made that horrible ruling about presidential immunity I have little confidence.
Trump getting away with a pardon and then getting assassinated is, in my mind, one of the worst scenarios. It martyrs him in the eyes of his cult. At the same time, it sets out legal precedent for a future fascist/authoritarian to pardon themselves for misdeeds in office. He’s an old man anyway and won’t last much longer. Let’s hope it does not come to pass.
Even if Trump doesn’t pardon himself, the next asshole will pardon him to “help heal the rift between two camps”.
No president, ever, has been held accountable for various corruptions and war crimes.
