Okie! What do you propose then? Because I think reparations and a lifting of sanctions are a bit much to ask for, but I do think that would be better for global stability and peace than the US just retreating. Continued aggression by the US is of course a no go, because that has in the past led to the rise of extremist organizations (think ISIS, think al Qaeda), not to mention millions of deaths, and a severe decrease in living standards for the local population (Libya became an open air slave market after the NATO bombings, Iraq blah blah, and so on).
By the by, the label “terrorist” is kind of subjective. The nazis referred to the local resistance fighters as terrorists, and Israel (and the countries that fund their genocide) refers to Hamas as a terrorist organization. It’s a fairly meaningless term aside from sounding a bit spooky. From the perspective of Palestinians and Lebanese, Hamas and Hezbollah are the resistance fighters protecting them from the violent occupier, Israel.
In the case of Hamas, it’s just the government, because they elected them in the early 2000s. They operate hospitals and do other government stuff. Because they’re the government. The only thing that sets it apart from the Israeli government is that the Israeli government is committing a genocide, maintaining apartheid since 67, and doing ethnic cleansing since 48.
Don’t do Israel’s propaganda work for them by labelling their opponents as terrorists.
Fine! Good! Why are we criticizing this, this is the right move. This article has “hitler did terrible things; he made tactical errors” energy.
Iran has a history of using international terrorism, and the US has just re-affirmed themselves as “the great Satan”, Iran’s primary enemy.
While it might be the least bad outcome, it is arguably not cause for celebration. Even if you don’t like Trump.
