US says its firepower will ‘surge dramatically’ and IDF warns of ‘surprises ahead’, as Iran launches retaliatory strikes
Israel and the US have bombarded Iran and Lebanon with a fresh wave of airstrikes and threatened a major escalation in their joint offensive, as Iran retaliated with more attacks across a swath of the Middle East.
Pete Hegseth, the US defence secretary, said US firepower was “about to surge dramatically” with the deployment of more bombers, while Eyal Zamir, the Israel Defense Forces chief of staff, said Israel was moving to a new phase of its offensive that would “further dismantle the regime and its military capabilities”.

On Friday, the seventh day of the spiralling conflict, Tehran launched missiles and drones at Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, apparently targeting US bases and civilian infrastructure including oil pipelines.
This kind of rhetoric convinces me we are going to drop a nuclear bomb, and it scares the shit out of me.
More than any other war in my lifetime, there are no brakes on escalation in this war.
The more I think about it the more obvious it is to me that one of the only ways Trump has left to “gotcha” the world by smashing through an established norm is by dropping a nuclear bomb.
Alarmingly this is the only way Trump knows how to win and this kind of strategy will always lead back to using a weapon everyone thought was too catastrophic to use.
This is their strategy. Make everyone terrified of the administration so they get their way.
Maybe, or maybe their strategy is to drop the bomb so they go down in history as strong men.
I’m not saying he won’t back it up with craziness, just that he uses fear as a negotiation tactic.

Escalation IS the cowardly thing to do, it is existentially exhausting that centrists have amnesia with fascism when it comes to this lesson.
