politics @lemmy.world•Pete Hegseth Announces New Required Pentagon Testosterone Tests
9·24 hours agoI don’t know, but “testosterone replacement therapy” is most certainly gender-affirming care. But since they’re not forcing it, I assume this is to institutionalize the bullying and harassment of men the testosterone-addled meatheads don’t consider manly enough or women they consider too manly. And we can expect that to include routinely accusing those without the “right” amount of testosterone of being transgender and kicking them out of the military.

Android@lemmy.world•Google and Epic give up fighting — third-party Android app stores are coming next weekEnglish
25·1 day agoAs far as I can see it doesn’t improve that situation. The Google Play Store may be forced to list alternative app stores, but by default the only apps that will install on Android, no matter which store they are downloaded from, are those whose developer has registered with Google, and where Google has approved both the developer and the app. So Google can still censor any app or developer they (or the US Government) consider inconvenient.
Google promises a slightly laborious workaround for this, but they don’t say how long the workaround will remain available.

73·3 days agoIt’s from 2013, when Google released Google Glass, the first glasses containing a screen and camera. The backlash to that was exactly like the backlash today towards glasses with cameras. The techbros just hoped we had forgotten.

United States | News & Politics@lemmy.ml•“My goal ... is to radicalize people as much as possible”: Asmongold's extreme rhetoric about immigration and ideological opponents
74·3 days agoHoyt has an audience of millions who tune in to watch the streamer scroll through social media, play video games, and react to the latest news. Alongside gaming content, Hoyt pushes right-wing talking points on subjects ranging from “identity politics and progressive values” to immigration, amassing 2.4 billion views on his YouTube channels alone in 2025.
He does nothing useful, possesses no valuable skills, is entirely dependent for his living on the labour of software developers and journalists, and all he does is play games and stoke his viewers’ anger against immigrants who do actual work. Who’s the parasite again?

21·4 days agoThe words in the headline have the right outline and position. The paper looks exactly as pixelated as his shirt. The corner of the photo looks diagonal because that’s where the paper is folded. I don’t see evidence of fakery in any of these things.
There could be AI face replacement going on but there’s no evidence for that either. The photo is not a great way to prove life when the Internet’s full of high quality fake images and videos, but it doesn’t look especially suspicious either.

politics @lemmy.world•Mitch McConnell mystery deepens as health questions remain unanswered
9·5 days agoIt’s OK, we already have even worse people to continue his work.

Economic damage, environmental damage, concentration of power with multi-billionaire fascists, cultural damage due to huge quantities of slop crowding out everything else, mass unemployment and the exploitation of remaining workers, disempowerment of everyone who doesn’t have the resources to control this technology, destruction of ordinary people’s access to suitably powerful computing machinery so that we’re all forced to either rent access to AI from its corporate gatekeepers or not use it, total surveillance by the state and its favoured corporations, profiling and predictive policing, marketing, etc. That’s quite a lot to object to, and I’m sure there’s more.
