It’s an unofficial fan made project, but oh my god it’s the tits! You play SMB, but it’s got all these quality of life improvements.
Like the background and clouds aren’t static like they would be in the NES. There’s options to backtrack. You can change the clock to unlimited, or change the seconds to real seconds. You can change how damage is done. American style, or Japanese style.
They included Super Mario Bros Special. Which is a rare 1986 Super Mario game, which was released by Hudson Soft. In the 1986 version the screens did not scroll with you. Instead you move forward, and the screen transitions. Well this game takes those levels, and lets you play them in the original SMB engine, with SMB graphics.
They included a mode from SMB DX where you had to hunt for 5 red coins, a yoshi egg, and get a certain score.
They included a boo race mode.
And Super Mario Bros 2 (Japan)
I don’t even know what All Night Nippon Super Mario Bros is.
They included resource packs, which change the graphics. They have a stage builder. You can share or download others custom levels.
It has achievements.
Guys, this game is the real deal.

Hey, I got a question for you. If you go to challenges, you should see 1-1. Next to it, is 1-2. I beat 1-1. I got the 5 red coins. I got the yoshi egg. And I got the score.
So all 3 objectives are done.
Why can’t I unlock 1-2?
If I remember correctly, you need to beat a stage in regular mode for it to become available in challenge mode.
Well hot damn! Thank you! I fiddled with this for 30 minutes the other night. I even deleted all data. I even uninstalled, redownloaded, and reinstalled.
I would have never guessed that you need to beat it in normal mode first to then do challenges mode. I would have stumbled upon it, after casually playing. And then maybe a week later trying to figure out how to unlock challenges, only to discover them already unlocked. Then I’d be REALLY confused.
But at least now I get what I need to do. I get whats going on, and it works!
Oh, one slight correction though. You don’t need to beat the stage. Just play it. After reading your reply I decided to try beating 1-1 and 1-2. Then I died on 1-3. I was expecting to see 1-1 and 1-2 unlocked with 1-3 still locked. But 1-3 is unlocked too.
So, thank you for the info so I can stop being frustrated. I at least know now I need to play every level at least once, so I can play challenges mode! And I assume that’s also why most of the boo levels were locked.
