Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Movie/TV characters always make it through the craziest plot and somehow not get forever traumatized by it. I wish I could be like that, but instead I stuggle to even make/keep therapy appointments.English
3·1 day agoI wouldn’t recommend it. It goes into Nightmare on Elm Street style supernatural territory, which is fine for that series but tonally clashes with the first one.

9·2 days agoThere’s a part in Lord of the Rings Online that sticks with me. When I finally got out of Moria and went to Lothlorien, Frodo is there. The game has a mechanic where when you’re in the presence of particularly strong evil you get a debuff called dread that lowers your morale (essentially your HP). When I approached him I noticed I had a dread debuff and was confused as to what was causing it until I remembered - of course, he has the ring! The game doesn’t make any mention of it, it’s just left for you to notice. It was a great way to subtly depict the burden he would have to carry for a long time.

5·2 days agoYou don’t have to be trying to depict addiction to end up doing it anyway. The ring’s allure might be magical, but the pattern is broadly the same.

19·3 days agoNo wonder the Trump regime didn’t want it aired. Nothing is more dangerous to them than pointing out that the culture war is fabricated to distract from the class war so the poors don’t realize that the billionaires are their enemies, not immigrants and trans people.

2·7 days agoLike what, Jerb322? The fact that climate change, pedophile billionaires, and fascism are destroying the planet? Well, you’re right! All I have left is quoting lines from old movies from my childhood to try to keep the horrors at bay.

Even Mitch McConnell didn’t vote for this thing.
