    Demographically, what is the profile of the average “settler”? Are they ultra-orthodox, Herodim or something? I know very little about Israeli domestic stuff

      Some of the settlers move to the occupied territories for religious reasons while others are drawn by a relatively lower cost of living and financial incentives offered by the government. Ultraorthodox Jews form one-third of all settlers.

      Basically there are 2 types of people living there. First are the people who go to live there because government supports it a lot (which is terrible btw). Basically they go to the West Bank to enjoy life in a newly built village with more modern amenities than in the rest of Israel.

      The second groups are the ultra-orthodox ones who just believe that God gave them the land… Rather no comment on that attitude.

      Yeah that’s the stereotype, that settlers are typically right-wing orthodox types that believe the entire holy land should belong to them. Though, the Al-Jazeera article says Ultra-Orthodox are 1/3 of settlers and many others are there for religious or financial reasons.
