In his address to the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, William Ruto lamented Africa’s exclusion from permanent representation on the UN Security Council, despite accounting for more than a quarter of the assembly’s membership.
That’s not really the purpose of the Security Council. It’s not a reward, it’s a place to make the powers that can wipe out life on the planet sit down and talk even if they don’t want to. That’s why there’s a veto.

The creation of African Union included the agreement to push for 2 permanent African security council members and the AU votes for who gets them.
Africa has to decide for itself what’s is in its best interest in the UN. Some may say that the lack of democracy is a problem, but it is just as an human endeavour as any in the world.
Africa has to represent itself, to have a living voice in world matters. They sure know as best than anyone what is good for their destiny, for they are people just as any.
UN has a post world war 2 History, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t built to bring peace and prosperity to the world, and this means giving voice and political power to decide on world matters to Africa.

Indeed, but that’s just part of it. If you take Ethiopia (where the next round of genocide seems to be taking off) for example, centuries or even millenia of being used as a hunting ground for sex slaves might have some effect as well

Colonialism is problematic because it robs people of resources and self-determination, and creates a underclass. Slavery is remarkably good at doing all of those things.
