And sure, most people in the US couldn’t define what socialism is. But that’s not really the point here. What matters is that people are starting to understand that the current system is not working in their interest. That’s the prerequisite for any sort of meaningful change. The next step will be people realizing that voting is part of the same system that keeps them down.
Sure; but also be aware that unless youre gonna take on the worlds largest military, you need to play the system and vote.
Anything less than total collapse is a huge waste of time and massive potential for rightward radicalization. Just vote appropriately until something horrific happens and we have no choice, basically
A whole lot of people die in a total collapse, and there’s no guarantee that what comes after would be better (in fact, odds are it’d be significantly worse). Accelerationism is betting that you can outlive mass famine, street gangs, and water insecurity long enough to get to the military juntas and opportunistic invading forces. All while the biggest stockpile of weapons and military hardware in history is just sitting around for anyone to walk off with, and any country that might be inclined to help altruistically is also collapsing because the world’s largest economic driver just went belly-up, or being attacked by the opportunists who got in and stole the keys to the nukes early.
Total collapse is a worst case scenario; not just for Americans, but for the world as a whole, and for multiple generations.
Always vote for not-collapse if you’re given a choice.
Accelerationism is betting that you can outlive
Not really. A lot of accelerationists do not care if they live or die.
Remember the last war the world’s largest military won? 80 years ago?
Militant-reformist-accelerationist?
yeah…
I think at this point the US military couldn’t fight a traffic ticket
How is your approach qualitatively different from liberal incrementalism?
Play the system and vote yes, but also don’t wait around for something worse to happen. Voting is one tool, it doesn’t work very well, but it’s easy enough to use. So vote but then put your real efforts into direct action
That doesn’t make any sense at all. People have tried to play the system and vote for decades. This doesn’t work because the system is literally designed to prevent you from winning. People really need to get this through their skulls. The alternative is obviously not to fight the military either. It’s to organize mutual aid, unions, and a workers movement. Go read up on how MAS in Bolivia got organized to the point where they can do a national strike in a matter of hours. That’s the power workers have. It’s not going pulling a lever to pick the member of the ruling class who is going to rule over you and oppress you every four years like an imbecile. It’s to recognize that workers are what makes the whole economy run, and when workers stop working the country grinds to a halt. The fact that Americans still can’t understand this basic fact is just phenomenal.
I would’ve agreed with this 20 years ago, but the US is really awful at fighting even mildly competent insurgencies…
Just vote appropriately until something horrific happens and we have no choice, basically
Goodness, if none of what has happened is horrific I’m not sure I want to see horrific.
