The entire world of software is using AI. It’s so strange to me we’re allowing big corporations like Microsoft, Google, Reddit, etc devs take advantage of it for efficiency gains then turning around and criticizing and scoffing at solo dev projects who want to push the Internet to a better place.

By all means it’s your right to say you don’t want to use anything built with AI, but at this point you’re better just leaving the Internet wholesale.

Not leaving the internet wholesale, per se, but I’m guessing the majority of people in the Fediverse are functionally trying to roll back to a pre-2020 internet.

        That’s certainly why I’m here.

          Not only that.

Some go as far as demanding 100% AI-free Fediverse server instances. OS kernel, userland, Web server, database server, Fediverse server application etc. etc., the whole stack 100% devoid of any code that went through an AI at some point. And they accept no compromises. Well, other than sticking on their Mastodon servers on which probably the whole stack is partially written by AI.

I’m actually waiting for someone to hard-fork Mastodon 3, not only in order to get rid of “AI slop” code, but also to make “the Fediverse” feel as purist as during the big hype of October/November, 2022 again.

Who’s allowing big tech to use ai exactly ? Do you think anyone on the fediverse has any power over this ?
