Some of us were talking about dropout.TV and I made a few posts on the community for dropout but the weird thing is I can’t see any of them on the community directly. I can see my post if I go to the link and other people can comment on it but I don’t see my post anywhere on the community feed. Is that normal or some kind of error? With Lemmy, piefed, or Blorp? Or Blahaj?

Community: https://threadiverse.link/c/dropout@lemmy.blahaj.zone

My post: https://threadiverse.link/piefed.blahaj.zone/post/775235

EDIT: it was because the Blorp setting for “hide read posts” was on. Thanks https://threadiverse.link/u/slazer2au@lemmy.world

Oh yeah. I have that ticked but it never seems to work! I guess it only works when it would annoy you lol. I’ll try turning it off.

Edit: Yup! That was the issue.

Blorp dev here. We intentionally don’t hide read posts until you refresh the feed. IMO if you click into a post then back, instantly hiding it would feel very jarring. But once you manually pull to refresh, that’s a good indication of “I’m ready for new content”.

There are some posts that I see every time, even after I pull to refresh, with the setting on. Maybe it is because I only scrolled past them without clicking?

Is there any way I could collect data on this that might help?

Would it be possible to show read posts when visiting a comm, while hiding them everywhere else?

I also have to say I’m starting to like Blorp more than voyager :)

Ah we currently only mark a post read when you click on it. So if you didn’t click on it, that’s the issue.

You should see the post title in the feed go from white to slightly gray after it’s been marked as read.

But it sounds like what you’re looking for is “mark read on scroll”, which in working on adding in the next release, v1.15.0.

I think you’re right that we do need an option to only hide read posts in the home tab, not communities. The only place it makes sense in communities is if a community has many many posts. But given most Lemmy communities are small, I’m probably creating more problems then I’m solving.
