We need legislation that enshrines payment for commute time universally, as it would encourage WFH mandates rather than RTO ones. As well as compensate other workers for their commute. Or perhaps a flat rate of one hour each way’s pay no matter the distance, to stop certain workers finding it harder to get a job.

Norah (pup/it/she)@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•If they wanted to do a gender-swapped Doctor Who, without it being the absolute pile of dogshit that is the BBC's current attempt, they should cast Fern BradyEnglish18·20 days agoCurrent attempt? That series ended two seasons ago. The current doctor is Ncuti Gatwa, and we even had a brief spell of David Tennant again in between.
Norah (pup/it/she)@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•If copyright on a work expired immediately after death, would be that a bad or good idea?English9·23 days agoI think it’s a great idea. Their descendants can inherit any proceeds from their life, rather than the ownership of the copyright.
Norah (pup/it/she)@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•If copyright on a work expired immediately after death, would be that a bad or good idea?English4·23 days agoCopyright, even if signed away to a company, is still timed off the original creator’s lifespan.
Norah (pup/it/she)@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•There's now more people that complain about AI then there is AI content on LemmyEnglish5·1 month agoWhen the most important things to zoomers, gen alpha, and still most millennials, is to prevent climate catastrophe, the thing that’s sucking down, and will suck down, most of the world’s electricity to do a few small things that you can do for yourself just as easily, all in the name of productivity and profit for the capitalist machine that is destroying the world. Well, can you see how that would drive many to just say “AI BAD!”?
Norah (pup/it/she)@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•There's now more people that complain about AI then there is AI content on LemmyEnglish3·1 month agoYou can still at least pick clean energy sources for your electricity is the point I’m making. Most don’t because it’s more expensive.
No, it’s not. Renewables are far and away cheaper. But that doesn’t change that calling it a problem on an individual level is falling for the exact propaganda corporations have been pushing since the Crying Indian commercial in 1971: https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crying_Indian_public_service_announcement
Norah (pup/it/she)@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•There's now more people that complain about AI then there is AI content on LemmyEnglish3·1 month agoI mean yeah, definitely? Corporations losing profit is much different to individual artists losing the ability to monetise their work.
Norah (pup/it/she)@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Technology@lemmy.world•Meet the AI vegans. They are refusing to use artificial intelligence for environmental, ethical and personal reasonsEnglish4·1 month agoOne fundamental part of “intelligence” is being able to come up with independent thoughts. Another is to be able to think critically about those thoughts. LLMs cannot do either.
Norah (pup/it/she)@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•There's now more people that complain about AI then there is AI content on LemmyEnglish3·1 month agoI’m perfectly happy to call it theft. At that point it’s not like piracy, you’re stealing the essence of the work and shoving in your uncanny valley machine.
Norah (pup/it/she)@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Technology@lemmy.world•Meet the AI vegans. They are refusing to use artificial intelligence for environmental, ethical and personal reasonsEnglish4·1 month agoIt’s not really about feelings? It’s provably, demonstrably wrong a bunch of the time. It’s pathologically incapable of saying “I don’t know this”. Also you’re nitpicking, they may have conflated LLMs with AI but so is the article and you clearly knew what OC was talking about.
Norah (pup/it/she)@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•There's now more people that complain about AI then there is AI content on LemmyEnglish21·1 month agoDid you ask ChatGPT for these figures? Would explain why you’re using nonsensical units.
Norah (pup/it/she)@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•There's now more people that complain about AI then there is AI content on LemmyEnglish5·1 month agoPhotoshop are literally stealing their customers images to train their AIs: https://mashable.com/article/adobe-users-outaged-new-policy-trains-ai-their-work
Norah (pup/it/she)@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•There's now more people that complain about AI then there is AI content on LemmyEnglish4·1 month agoOh yes of course, it’s the people’s fault because they dismiss discussion of petrochemicals. Not the billion-dollar companies lobbying.
Norah (pup/it/she)@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•There's now more people that complain about AI then there is AI content on LemmyEnglish82·1 month agoActually, it seems like the grumpy old men are the ones zealously advocating for AI, and most of the people complaining are younger and take issue with the labour and artists rights, as well as environmental, problems that it causes.
Norah (pup/it/she)@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Every support thread on Reddit is literally this nowEnglish41·1 month agoI feel like they lost prestige more broadly but I’m obviously bias being here on Lemmy. We see I guess, I predict them tanking after their IPO.
Norah (pup/it/she)@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Every support thread on Reddit is literally this nowEnglish51·1 month agoThat doesn’t mean I think they should get to keep that stuff. Sure, we lost a lot of knowledge there, and that sucks. But the company lost out and pushed their IPO way back for it and I enjoy seeing Spez suffer after what he did to Aaron’s legacy.
Norah (pup/it/she)@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Every support thread on Reddit is literally this nowEnglish67·1 month agoGood! The users add all the value to that site, moderate if for free and they couldn’t even not be cunts about it.
I’d say only if it’s consensual.
