Earth’s circumference is 40 000 km, if you align 50k patches of 5 km width, it covers more than 6 times this circumference. Current human’s light pollution is already a biodiversity issue. This would be massively worsening the situation for just one system.


Do we need a paper to estimate that ecosystems that evolved with a night time with a moon (mostly partial, sometimes absent), are going to be disturbed by having 50k of them? Also it’s the new product’s responsibility to demonstrate its safety.


Again you’re implying something I didn’t mean, but the point is that having 50k times the equivalent of the moon light intensity is expected to have a bad impact on the environment.

I think there’s quite a big difference between operating the car yourself based on GPS instructions and letting an LLM write your code, if that’s what you mean. The equivalent would be asking the model only what to do, and then coding yourself based on its instructions.

What’s your source? Solar panels certainly are much easier and cheaper to setup, but what about over 40 years (average age of reacrors in France)?


For the same cooling reason some places have been covering irrigation canals with solar panels. The water cools down the panels and it reduces water loss through evaporation.


I’m confused by the albedo argument. The reflected light would need to reach the solar panels, but the panels are facing up. So how could a surface of ice/snow be sufficiently facing the solar panels to reflect a significant amount of sun light towards the panels?
Edit: nevermind, using my hands to draw imaginary angles, I’ve concluded it can work with a facing normal white slope for some sun position if the orientation is favorable.


It seems none of them exist sadly.

I got a Nokia Lumia at the time and the OS quality was surprisingly good. It felt much more well thought end to end than my Android is currently. But it was a mistake to force a convergence with the desktop OS.
