Living in the country with the most militarized police, a nation with a massive capability to spy on it’s own citizens, citizens who have little critical thinking capability to begin with. A society where social media creates the reality those poorly educated citizens live in, and social media is owned by oligarchs who benefit from a system where pleasing one narcissistic leader gives them power over regulators and increases their wealth more rapidly. I think people are a little optimistic to believe we can’t call the next election today.

This is a good article that deeply examines Trump’s use of grandiose and unsupported claims, made up “facts”, and the difficulty in framing and reacting to it experienced by media and politicians. I don’t think dumbing down the wording to “Trump lies” will do anything to improve it. The entire premise and text of the article takes it as given that Trump lies so frequently and thoroughly that it transcends being a liar and becomes an alternative reality his followers have bought into. If you’re worried they’re not calling him out, you should read it.

As others mentioned, this isn’t America. Also, fraudulent calls to emergency services is a criminal offense, people who do this are usually charged and fined, or even given jail time. It’s not like it’s accepted or mainstream behavior, people just do stupid things and when combined with stupid cops it has led to tragic outcomes. In this video they seem to show up, which they HAVE to do, place the occupant in precautionary detainment, verify there is no crime underway, and release him. They would probably then take a statement, then the next thing would be to get a warrant for the call records and charge the dipshit that started the incident.

To be fair, would you want to be the judge that threw him in jail when the military comes to break him out following an election victory? Looking into America from the outside, people are hedging their bets with possible dictatorship.

While there obviously are narratives in media, the Biden situation is very interesting to me. Biden is an 81 year-old man. The job he was in the running for is high stress and very important. The media reported on the obvious and completely understandable concerns that voters and politicians had with his candidacy. Given the enormous stakes for countries like mine, outside but influenced by the US, our media also reported on the very real confusion and concern that our citizens had. Trying to say it is some kind of hit job seems to massively oversimplify things.

That’s not necessary, as far as I understand there’s a 2/3 majority required to carry an impeachment (not American, so could be wrong). That’s not possible with roughly 50% republican votes. The impeachment can’t succeed, but it’s their job to try, and it also puts the evidence on the record.

The problem is, he isn’t fit. He’s just less unfit. People are frustrated that instead of a normal, reasonable alternative, they have to pick the less ridiculous of two ridiculous options.

Not really, in this case they are equating actions Trump took to overturn his election loss as official duties. It’s definitely a messy part of the law, but if you bundle the actions taken to bring down a governmental system with those taken in the administration of that system you’re probably only trying to help bring it down.

Genuinely crazy situation, I don’t think that’s ever happened before. Either they underestimated the thrust they had, or they saved money on hardware. Possibly calculated shear force for the full stack instead of just the booster. Somebody is definitely fired.

As a Canadian watching this, knowing that his loss would accelerate the shift to a dictatorship south of the border, it’s so disheartening. What is wrong with the Democrats, it’s bizarre. I can’t even imagine having to vote for a candidate like him, that it’s even a question when his opponent is such an absolute clown. It’s the dumbest timeline.

This was interesting to listen to, the only thing left is single issue voting. A vote for whatever is put across from Trump, regardless of who or what it is, opens the chance for another election to try again.

I definitely understand the dynamics of that, and how policy and morality make center left voters more fractious than the right, who vote on dogma. What I was trying to say, is that were I an American, I would very much struggle to give my vote to someone who is pretty clearly a part of the process of atrocity and genocide. It’s a cold decision to have to make. Do I choose an accessory to one of humanities worst crimes, or another who would also commit that crime, as well as presenting further risks of accelerating the path of America toward becoming Iran, but with a cross instead of a crescent.

As a Canadian I don’t have to deal with it directly, but I don’t think I could cast a vote for Biden. Downvotes on these posts are strange to me. From outside the US it’s obvious that while Israel bears primary responsibility for the ongoing ethnic cleansing, it likely wouldn’t have developed so completely without the material, economic, and political support of the Biden administration. Simply telling a group that, sure this guy is cool with the elimination of your people and is willing to help, but the other guy is a threat to our system… well it’s pretty rich to expect that group to suck it up.

Unfortunately that option has never been tested against a nuclear weapons state. That makes a huge difference. Iraq was a powerful regional military when they invaded Kuwait, a coalition of forces promptly rocked up and slapped the empire building off their face.

When Russia invaded Ukraine the situation was similar in every way but one, Russia can respond to a catastrophic battlefield outcome with nuclear escalation.

Israel both has nuclear capacity and has very little strategic depth. Whatever doctrinal tripwire they use to determine the deployment scenario for their nuclear deterrent could quickly be reached, meaning that moving in force to end the genocide is functionally impossible.

Currently we would be able to tell that our governments are actively trying to intervene if we see sanctions starting to appear. Right now the Whitehouse can say what they want to damage control the situation, the US is actively providing political, economic, and material support to the activities of the IDF. If that stops, then you know they are trying to do something, until then, keep protesting.

Should put some hustle under that two state solution. Pretty soon one state will just be a genocide memorial in a dirt lot surrounded by Israeli settlements.
