I just want to get into doing more posts, but I am confused on how to get consistent visual images to load on timelines from articles, general website thumbnails, gifs and videos.
And a lot of those people arrived when those communities were already built up on reddit.
This seems to be a type of post that keeps popping up more and more. Some people are venting and mourning their loss of reddit, which I get… but others have a sense of entitlement, of wanting to have things without needing to work for it. They want someone else to put in the blood, sweat and tears and be the ones to reap the benefits.
Imagine pilgrims coming to early North America and no one wanting to participate once they arrived, because no pre-built cities exited? We wouldn’t have a country in the US (though I’m sure that must have been the attitude of some)
This is usually how it goes. The larger communities keep growing until they can branch off into the more niche ones.

I see this a lot too and to me it mimics the 7 stages of grief. It sounds like he just passed anger and is at bargaining.
I think if most of the reddit transplants (myself a transplant) can’t arrive at acceptance, they end up going back.
I will say there were times I wanted to ask certain questions, and was sure I would just be met with multiple “switch to linux” responses. I just used google to try and find answers on Reddit.
Some higher end brands come with shoe horns. I have a few now. I will say in all my years I have never broken or deformed one though, and I have some cheap ones from amazon too.
Likely to promote and increase activity people will try to repost what was already popular on reddit. It’s no different than movie studios wanting to only make movies that have preexisting fanbases.
I don’t think there’s much that can be done other than being patient and guiding how things grow. Reddit took a decade to build. Lemmy’s journey will likely be long, but it probably won’t take 10yrs. Solutions to existing problems will happen over time.
Maybe less content is good? Infinitely scrolling is not great, and we all know that. Having limited content on Lemmy allows me to at least move onto something else.
Yep. No matter what my default ios browser is set to, I think Voyager uses safari, could hopefully be a future update.
I think this is why the “15min City/Neighborhood” is a popular idea. Small clusters of group where you can walk and get all your basic needs within a 15min walk. I don’t really think this is feasible in the US though, unless someone decided to build an entirely new city.

I may have to bite the bullet and just pay for something.
It seems the free version only works on Safari. And also does not appear to work on my phone once installed. I likely have to update everything to the latest versions. I’ve generally just stuck to firefox focus which does block things if I am on the browser.
This is how it’s shown natively inside Voyager. Unless there is a way to install adblock onto the ios version, I’d have to pop every link out to a new browser. Not the end of the world, but then at that point I’d just browse lemmy outside of the app.

I’ve always been fascinated by 4D, but a question just came to mind. Would we gain anything by being able to perceive that extra dimension living only in a 3D world? Is there anything we are currently not seeing that may exist in our world? Would we just have x-ray vision?
There’s part of an episode in Orville about this very topic. I need to finish up that show.
That is also what I was reading, that each instance may have its own backend rules on how things are pulled. I worry that may become an issue with cross posting or probably deter people from posting in general if true.
