I was on one of the first flights after travel was suspended, arrived in LA with soldiers carrying loaded guns. EVERYONE had a flag flying on EVERYTHING. You would not believe it if it were in a dystopian movie. The country collectively lost their minds and just threw away their civil rights out of fear. Sihks were being shot at because Americans shit themselves over anyone wearing a turban. Then of course, they invaded the one country that had nothing to do with 9/11, while they continued to do big business with the country that did.
Even the banks were giving out American flag bumper stickers. I remember going into the bank to get a money order and they had stacks of them at each window.
The week it happened, my friends and I made a lot of Terrorists Win jokes. It only took a few months for that to become “Oh fuck. They DID win.”
