Your misreading Ryan here. He’s explicitly not saying more boats will not improve the navy. The boats are useless more boats will still be useless.

What he is doing is apologia for Platner wanting to build more boats because they are built in Maine. He’s basically acknowledging that Platner is fundamentally captured by the MIC and making excuses for it.

Graham Platner’s entire agenda is to “stop the waste” of the MIC and make it more efficient and better. The only thing Platner regrets about murdering brown people is that he feels like a lot of US taxpayer dollars were wasted while doing it and it could have been done more efficiently. And that’s not an exaggeration or misrepresentation. That’s his own words.

Ryan’s words could be interpreted in two ways here, but knowing the rest of Platner’s agenda I think it’s the first.

Also the whole “all ships are from Maine” thing doens’t even seem to be true.

Ryan can only be interpreted one way: The boats are useless so its just an increase in waste to continue building them. You can’t project Platner’s opinions onto Ryan just because Ryan supports him. People support Platner for a kaleidescope of contradicting and sometimes incoherent reasons.

Ryan is correct that the boats are waste is also correct that Planter only supports it as a jobs program for Mainers.

You then object to Platner’s position of “reducing military waste” but you’re also upset that he’s not doing it? If military efficiency is something you oppose then shouldn’t you support the US wasting money on a useless surface fleet?

For the record I do think we should be reducing these MIC welfare programs and I’m upset Platner is not. These make work jobs are carefully distributed across america to keep the public materially enfranchised with the imperialist project. Ryan knows this and is huffing copium because Platner is failing to cut them.

I don’t think you understand. Platner doesn’t want to spend less money on the military. He explicitly wants to keep spending the current insane amount. But he wants to make the military more cost efficient, so it basically just gets bigger and better.

Now you might notice there’s a small contradiction between being an “anti-war” candidate and then improving the US army because the US will then use that army to do more war.

So you think the surface fleet isn’t a waste? Because unless they’re making submarines there, it absolutely is.

Regardless, my point about what Ryan means and why he’s huffing cope still stands. Ryan Grim has a well established history of being actually anti-war and anti-imperialism. But he’s fallen to thinking Platner is the same.
