They stopped allowing you to download books licensed (“sold”) through the kindle shop in order to prevent you from putting them onto your device via cable. …which makes “cunt behaviour” even more accurate. ;)

Old or new, doesn’t matter. They stopped allowing you to download books licensed (“sold”) through the kindle shop in order to prevent you from putting them onto your device via cable.
