Possibly a dumb question, but what exactly constitutes a “US-based digital service?” For example, does that mean everything on github is off limits? I wouldn’t think so (and actually I’m kind of surprised that so many projects stayed on github after it was bought by Microsoft). Me being me, I’ve started going through my various account entries on KeePass, and changing the favicon of the site/service with the flag of the country it’s based in (to the best of my knowledge). Many of them will be US-based, and this is probably unavoidable, but the more I can reasonably minimize the number of 🇺🇸s, the better.

Signal is going to be a tough one for me to get past, since all my clueless relatives are on it…

However, I would suggest that if you do decide to use this that you pick one or two of your favorite periodicals and either donate or subscribe to them. The Guardian and your local paper might be two good choices.

Also, if you have uBlock, turning off javascript can sometimes defeat a paywall.

I sometimes wonder if we’re in the wrong timeline like on that episode of NextGen where Tasha Yar was never killed, they encounter the Enterprise-C, and Guinan tells Picard “it’s not supposed to be like this, there should be children on this ship,” or words to that effect.

However, people probably felt that way too when JFK was shot; from where I’m standing, the real fracture in the timeline occurred on 9/11, and things have only gotten more batshit crazy and fractured as time goes by.
