Technology@lemmy.world•Chat Control 1.0 passed the European Parliament — through the back doorEnglish
12·9 days agoYeah. It might be preferable to draw a line between social media and chat applications.
That way the people who are scared can teach their children to talk on services that are scanned, while people that care for their privacy can opt for private communication.
If it’s about pedophiles sharing stuff with each other, they’ll never be able to stop that.

Technology@lemmy.world•Quote of the day by Gabe Newell: "Piracy is not a pricing issue. It’s a service issue" — Sony just proved why digital storefronts are brokenEnglish
7·16 days agoThere was a reason people bought consoles. One of those was physical media and the fact you actually owned your copy, could resell it and lend it out. So this has nothing to do with Valve who has almost always been digital. If you want to compare it, you’d need a hypothetical like “Valve always sold digital games but will now switch to disk only games.”

111·20 days agoNot even EVs. The work was getting done by researchers improving electric motors and batteries. As soon as the technology was viable Elon jumped on it and marketed himself as the person behind it all. Same goes for PayPal which he stole credit for, rockets that people already worked decades on, tunnels that are just bad metros, and machine learning (AI) that people were already doing since the 70’s and only recently had breakthroughs because of the increased ability to feed it data en masse.
The only credit he should get is having the power and charisma to capitalize on the work of others. He’s a Thomas Edison and not a Nikola Tesla.

2·21 days agoStremio is enshitifying. Profiles were a long asked feature and they are implementing that in a paid Stremio subscription.
So you either suck it up and pay or hope that alternatives like Nuvio, Aurora and RealStream gain more traction and support.

World News@lemmy.world•German lawyers: Ban on far-right AfD 'likely successful'English
1·22 days agoIn my country the far right has spent hundreds of thousands on social media advertising. And what do they advertise? Fight videos where colored people are the aggressor. But advertising about how they are going to increase the pension age, lower taxes for people with capital, and all such bullshit is only mentioned in small print when you go look for it. The mainstream media just follows whatever the hype is.

World News@lemmy.world•German lawyers: Ban on far-right AfD 'likely successful'English
63·23 days agoThey have no grievances. They believe they have grievances because they have been manipulated by the AfD to need an enemy which the AfD presents them on a platter. It’s literally the only thing far right politics boils down to so the people give them power which they can use to steal money.

Iirc, landlords never had any actual photoshopping skills and mostly just used old pictures or simply didn’t take pictures of the stuff they didn’t want to show.
