9·12 days agoIt subsequently emerged the inquiry was sealed by a court order, theoretically constraining Patel from publicly disclosing it.
[…]
Patel has previously invoked court orders sealing grand jury testimony as justification for the FBI’s inability to release many of its files on Jeffrey Epstein.
There’s no contradiction here. Everyone should move along.

22·17 days agoWe’re fucked. I told my therapist this. I told our financial planner that I don’t expect us to survive, but we opened the account for my partner to take care of her. We’re gonna destroy ourselves. Will it be on the timeline I expect? Maybe not. But T2 has already proven that things are moving faster than I had anticipated.
Humans: A nice experiment. Maybe talking dogs will be the next ascendent species.

politics @lemmy.world•Stephen Miller Has Fox News Meltdown After Democratic Socialists Prevail In PrimariesEnglish
23·17 days ago“Right? Living in a state of total anarchy, without police, without law enforcement, where criminals can rape and maim and murder with impunity, where your kids are taught from the age of two to hate America, to hate their God, to hate their parents, to hate their family, to even hate their own gender, that’s their agenda,” he continued.
He’s right. It’s always been my Leftist opinion that hate is the best option. In fact, we should teach kids to commit suicide at every opportunity. This, plus my policies on ending homelessness, taxing the rich, providing livable wages, you know, all those things to relieve people of the horrible shit our current system offers… But yeah, after that, teach kids to murder themselves cause that’s also Leftism. And you know what else? We’ll murder some babies cause wtf do they expect from us.
These people are stupid and incurious.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How come people are stupid nowadays? Especially on social mediaEnglish
1·18 days agoTribalism. We care more about being accepted by our desired peers than being correct. At least, that’s what articles and podcasts have told me. Also, stupid. Weaken education and make people stupid and unable to think critically. Do you think Ted Cruz (Harvard) was complaining about the Paris Accord because he genuinely didn’t know that it wasn’t Paris-only? His voters are goddamned morons and he knows it. The contempt is sickening, but they see none of it.

7·18 days agoAppearing on Fox News, deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller complained that the “Democrat Party has abandoned [centrism] and instead adopted this radical, revolutionary, and in many cases, violent ideology that wants to tear America down, and destroy everything that we know and love, from top to bottom.”
You’re right. The dems are violent and reactionary and revolutionary. That’s why they’ve been supporting the status quo for some multiple decades. It’s certainly not people who are fed up with dems saying that they’ve had enough. There’s no way that normal people think genocide is bad.

4·19 days agoYou’re probably looking for something like phpMyAdmin. A lot of hosting companies offer it (I had to log into my own to look up the name of the software). I would host in a European nation if you could (people love Hetzner; I haven’t used any outside the USA). I believe that’s a relatively save route to data sovereignty and I doubt they’d honor a court order from your country demanding records or access to your data, but you should research carefully and not trust some half-knowledgeable / half-ignorant guy on the internet (me) if you’re putting yourself at risk.
I think people on Lemmy will be genuinely friendly about answering questions if you demonstrate that you’ve put in an honest effort to learn things on your own and don’t ask people to basically do the thinking for you. Unix / Linux / network / server nerds like talking about this stuff and are happy to help each other learn so long as there’s a sense of respecting other people’s time by trying to do things on your own and only asking for expertise because you tried first but got stuck. That’s been my experience, anyway, over the years (big old nerd right here).

Pay for independently-developed software if you care about it continuing to exist. Steal from corporations all you want. But support independent devs (and small teams) to make sure they can keep maintaining the tools you love and rely on. It’s the only way to not get swallowed by the big dogs.
