Good job I guess Brennan but you also helped get us here.
What an absolute fucking champ-
While acknowledging his share of responsibility for the loss, Walz is returning to the national spotlight and didn’t rule out a 2028 presidential run, saying, “I’m not saying no.”
Both of those things are such music to my ears (although ofc we should all know that it was Harris’s brother-in-law Uber exec lawyer who muzzled Walz and deserves that blame that Walz is selflessly taking on here).
Sadly I’m not even sure the US will exist by 2028.
I’m just a simple country hyper-chicken but… That makes it sound like you are investing in that evil. Please say you are shorting that shit.
Think of it like this:
“This r**ard thinks the government uses PAPER [SQL]” - Elon Musk
It is literally that standard and common and obviously in use in the government.
(SQL is just a computer language for dealing with data and databases)
Lemmy on Voyager is flawless as fuck.
In fact I have been lately on Bluesky and spending much more time there these days, since people who I respect say “it’s an open standard” and “a true bulwark to the next Musk or whoever wants to buy it”, but I regularly find myself wondering, “what am I looking for here [on Bluesky]?”
The anonymity of reddit type platforms, of which Lemmy is the most future proof, is highly preferable. Bluesky (Twitter/Xitter, etc) feels lie a bunch of ‘identities’ wanting on some level to get the karma their post deserves plus the karma their identity ‘deserves’
Also in that field, but… I think you have to acknowledge that being, usually, in your example 1) at work and 2) on a computer, make people that much less interested in giving a shit. Compare to various systems people use in their free time, and you probably see that people are pretty good at attending to the things they think matter.
Capitalism, or, at the very very least, unfettered capitalism, are the real problem, not people writ large.
Lemmy’s final boss…
Then again, Lemmy and ActivityPub are (by design) wide open to anyone, including TenCent
God fucking dammit we really have to start predicting whatever almost-plausible-with-AI bullshit the far right is going to try to take advantage of while possible
Holy fucking shit, Accuweather?! TIL

Great answer thanks for sharing!
What two pieces of software, if you don’t mind sharing?
I ask because a relative who is a software developer could somehow barely finally leave windows, because of WinSCP, which is, afaik, a GUI for secure copy commands. Why rsync or sftp commands cannot be enough for a software developer without WinSCP was beyond me. But perhaps there is something I don’t know about each of these pieces of software.
Is it me or is there something very facile and dull about Gartner charts? Thinking especially about the “””magic””” quadrants one (wow, you ranked competitors in some area along TWO axes!), but even this chart feels like such a mundane observation that it seems like frankly undeserved advertising for Gartner, again, given how little it actually says.
0 sympathy. Lockheed and Martin. “Yes hello I would like to help you bomb people since you are paying well”
You applied to work at AT&T.
WTF.
Agreed with “fuck Oracle,” but isn’t the JVM the same regardless of where you compile it, Linux or something else?
Something seems off with the idea of a conflict between Linux and Java (and I am no fan of Java!)
GIMP is fucking awesome what are you on about
Find any video on YouTube about Mondragon in Spain. This is a good one from Dutch broadcaster vpro. It’s like the 9th largest organization in Spain, highly successful in other words. The Marxian economics Professor Richard Wolff gave a ‘Talk at Google’ years ago that is in part about Mondragon. He discusses Mondragon in much of his work in fact.
There is also some academic work that shows that worker coops are more resilient during recessions and, for example, the global financial crisis. Here’s a DW (German) minidoc discussing that fact https://youtu.be/zaJ1hfVPUe8
