It’s a quote from the movie Blade Runner. It’s meant to produce involuntary emotional responses in humans, to tell them apart from robots.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•What is the point of posting on the fediverse if it is going to be moderated similarly to Reddit?English
1·1 month agoThe decentralization is the new and interesting aspect. If that doesn’t matter to you then lemmy might not offer what you’re looking for.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What technology would you give to ancient people just to fuck with them?
15·2 months agoIf I may ask, where are you from? The city I live in is a nightmare for cars, the roads were made for horses and walking, narrow and winding cobblestone streets and the city tries its best to keep cars out of the center.

22·3 months agoPurely anecdotal, but the dominance/submission dynamic is something that many women seem to actually want. I have never steered things in that direction since it’s not my thing, but everyone I have been with has asked for some actions like that, being held down, light choking, some pain, etc. Remember how popular 50 shades was? It saddened me, like, “this is what mainstream women actually want”? It’s not what I want.

Technology@lemmy.world•Sextortion with a twist: Spyware takes webcam pics of users watching pornEnglish
1·3 months agoI was thinking more about legal actions. But then again torrents need trackers and search sites. It seems like it’s hard to shut down pirate bay though. I just have a feeling that usenet flies under the radar a bit, but if it became mainstream, it might be easier to shut down a server than a shifting swarm of peers?

8·3 months agoDoesn’t this also mean that the server can be a single point of failure? Whereas in a torrent swarm it’s distributed and more resilient?

The way this is phrased means that if there is 1 or more who never did it, you will eat your hat.
Are we sure he wasn’t talking about condoms?
My guess would be someone trying to make stone tools by banging rocks together, a spark fell into dry grass, etc. But, you know, just a guess.
Yes, sorry I fumbled the wording, I meant to say it makes me wonder what the other chinese factory workers make and under which conditions they work compared to the chinese workers that make fairphones. Maybe it’s all propaganda and fairphone uses slave labour, but that would surprise me. Another thing I thought about is that tech is just more expensive in europe in general. It’s common that we pay 20% more for the same phone or laptop in europe compared to the US.
Ethically sourced, fair wages to workers, etc. Makes you wonder what a factory worker in china makes to allow for cheaper phones.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What do you think the solution to selling progressive politics to young men is ?
192·6 months agoI genuinely believe that more empathy is needed in both directions for people to come out of their trenches. Problem is, it"s hard to feel empathy for those who have no empathy in return. It’s a locked position reinforcing itself with every bad interaction. To break out of this we would have to listen and show that we care, while not getting the same things back. It feels bad. Unfair. Again, this goes both ways.

8·6 months agoAre these american military bases useful for europe anymore? Do we need them? I always thought they were a nato thing, but nowadays I don’t know. If europe is alone against the russians anyway and we cant count on nato, maybe we should just tell the american military to leave europe?
For some people, maybe behind the reason they seek these procedures is a wish that isn’t actually fulfilled by the procedures. I’ve never heard of someone getting addicted to transplanting kidneys or fixing cataracts.

As others have said, lemmy.zip might be a better instance for you than .ml.
In general, I’d say people are nicer here, more arguments in good faith, which I like.
