  • Yeah but they’re not and they don’t. Downvote all you want (and you will) but I’m right

Thet didn’t pioneer reusable rockets, that was done decades ago already, and they’re not cheap either. They’re expensive, and they’re floating on government grants so that Elon musk can decide to absolutely obliterate a launch pad and pollute the kilometers wide surroundings.

SpaceX sull hasn’t done anything hat wasn’t done better long before. They do party hard reen a rocket of theirs explodes, which I never saw NASA do. Didn’t watch NASA blow up launch pads because of their CEO either.

They managed to get their super duper new heavy rocket in an uncontrolled spin in low earth orbit! I’m sorry, Noy impressed by results that are less than half of what -again- NASA did in the 60’ and 80’ of the last century.

SpaceX might be much more if it drops it’s current CEO

  • Way back in the day (say 1990) I used the Commodore Amiga platform, loved it, made me want to become a developer. It also already back then instilled a hatred for Microsoft in me.

Then windows 95 happened, the Amiga platform pretty much died, and I reluctantly switched to using Microsoft windows. For years I gave it a chance, I really did! I hated pretty much everything about it, except total Commander and Irfan view

Somewhere in 99 i bought a mini home server, and a friend of mine installed Slackware. I managed to break it within days and thought Linux was just too hard.

Then in 2001 or so I started working with a Redhat server, I believe first over telnet, then SSH and I started learning about the command line and loved it. I leaned compiling which was a bit of a drag to have to always do, but then I learned about packages and very shortly after that, package managers (yum was the first, I believe) and fell in love.

Then in 2002, I believe, I saw either fedora or Redhat desktops and learned about dual installations. I installed fedoara next to my windows install so that o could try it and work with the familiar windows, but I loved it so much that I quite literally never looked back. 3 months later I deleted my windows partition.

2004, I think, I switched to Ubuntu with KDE which later became Kubuntu.

I worked on a Linux desktop machine that allowed on 1 gigabyte Celeron CPU computer with one internal graphics and 4 graphics cards, usb splitters and usb Audio, keyboards, and mice, 5 users to work with KDE on that single computer. Novus, it was called. The project was a technical success and a huge commercial failure and since it was with an external investor, we weren’t allowed to make it open source, unfortunately.

I started working in a large data center in Latin America in around 2007, I believe, as a senior Linux administrator for 4 years, had a lot of laughs at the expense of the windows team, seeing how clunky and work intense their windows servers were in comparison with my Linux servers.

Some four-five years later I started my own software development company, all Linux only. Everyone, including the devs, secretaries, sales, all worked on Linux machines. I transferred ownership someone else, and the company still persists.

But I’ve been on Linux desktop only for well over 20 years now, still using Kubuntu or sometimes KDE neon or mint, but I’m “old” and much less interested in experimenting, I need a stable dependable desktop but I love the bling like KDE 3D desktop to show off to windows users to get them over to the dark side, we got cookies.

  • Just install Linux, get it over with, more away from the clutches of Microsoft, use a system that is free and easy to work with.

Yeah, Linux is not perfect, nothing is. Might Linux require you in some cases to do some extra work? Maybe. Windows does not? Did you read this post? Did you read the countless other posts where Microsoft makes your life harder on purpose, triest to spy juuuust a little harder on you? Where Microsoft tries to fuck you over, yet again? Where Microsoft for the Nth time purposefully and willfully ignored security threats to save money or face, allowing even the US government to be hacked cuz better for Microsoft?

Seriously, it’s like watching a woman with a best up face defending her husband, he isn’t that bad, or if I leave I will be without this thing I need, omg, what will I do?

Just. Leave. Switch to linux, and be done with this shit

  • Are you listening to yourself? Why are you even using this shite? You pay for being screwed over, bit don’t worry everyone, we can unsabotage the crap we paid for!

Switch to Linux already, come to the dark side, we have cookies.

Ona more serious note: there are literally less reasons every day to stick to windows. Games? Most , ir not damn near all work fine or better on linux. Photoshop? Run it in a VM if you must, away from the rat of your work, but at least stop paying Microsoft money FFS. Yes, actively pirate windows if you must.

I’m so fucking tired of people writing how they spend so much time to restore their paid product to a barely functional level, then complain about Linux being too complicated.

My literal last experience installing both lonic and windows was 25 minutes for Linux (that includes downloading the iso and burning it on a USB) and 7 grueling hours spread out over 4 days with countless failed attempts to install windows, BIOS metssing, trying different ISO burner programs, with the final attempt taking well over an hour to complete, passing countless “BUY MORE, ALLOW US TO SPY, GIVE US MORE MONEY, YOU WILL USE THIS SERVICE!” screens. Then Linux just worked and windows still was fucking me over.

Why do people put up with this? Just use Linux, get it over with. So much less pain.

  • Small correction here:

These services have nothing to do with 3g, 5g or wifi. All those are just communication protocols that phones use to connect to the internet, and neither your phone, nor their apps nor their servers will care a dime about those. Of 6g comes out or 5g disappears, nothing changes.

As long as the provider keeps their servers for your services up, the service is there. And that’s where the problem lies. It’s not the cost. A single 100 dollar / month server could easily cover all remote starts world wide, it really doesn’t require that much.

Decisions to take down these services and screw over paying customers are typically made my middle and upper management, to force people to buy their new crap

Yeah, it’s still crap. I’m not trying to defend these products requiring paid services, it’s shite and I would only use open sourced services, I’m just saying that the technology is a little different than you said

  • Slight tangent here but…

Is it me or what the hell is going on with kids these days? They all say “don’t liky!!” and the parents go “okaaaay, here is some candy, then!”

When I was a kid you got food and you ate it. I mostly liked it but of there was a meal that wasn’t my favorite, then sucks to be me, gotta eat it. I never once told my mom they I didn’t like the food, as I knew she worked hard to prepare it, and I had some basic respect and decency and understanding that she was doing what was best for me.

It was the same for other kids as far as I could tell.

Now, all around me I see these families and ALL have the same with the kids. I’m not trying to say we need to go back to the “good ol’” 1950’s but for fracks sake, can we instill just a little bit of obedience and discipline in kids? Sometimes when a kid asks why it’s okay to say “because I said so” and a small slap in the butt when a kid goes all off the rails neither hurt anyone. It certainly didn’t hurt me when I tested for boundaries and was shown where those boundaries were. No, I’m not advocating violence in children, I’m advocating to put more limits to kids, I feel there is an imbalance.

  • Yeaaahh, since US government policies are the entire reason that that drug war exists, Id say thanks, but no thanks.

Edit: to expand a little on this: US drug policy caused the entire drug trade, the high prices, and the extreme violence. The US then doesn’t send their best, they send their weapons, and they send them knowingly straight to the cartels (thanks, US gun manufacturers!). US government actually supported this for a while to see if it was true and… Did nothing with that.

Then US army would train Mexican soldier which then took that training straight into the Zetas which murdered even harder.

At this point, I can only say “FIX YOUR GODDAMN DRUG POLICIES, YOU @SSH@LES” and keep away, please.
