Different life situations for everyone, I think.
I don’t mean strictly professional honesty, but my experiences leak into how I view something like this. The biggest liar I know is still in jail for raping children, so I have a skewed view of honesty.
My industry and group are weird when it comes to credentials. We don’t have a strict, you need this degree situation.
I value honesty more than most people I’m realizing. If a hire is open about their credentials I would not care.
I’ve witnessed what happens when people are ok with liars. It’s gross, and no one should normalize it.
Honesty is my problem with it. If they were open about it I wouldn’t care. But if they hid it and were hired because of the degree I’d fire them almost regardless of their work.
It’s something I value because dishonest people are usually quite horrible in my life experience.
I dont know how I feel about this.
On one hand, degrees are somewhat good for education in lots of industries.
On the other hand, I would fire someone instantly if they had cheated their degree like this.
Degrees are also very expensive.
I guess if it was a useless degree then it wouldn’t matter in the first place.

I have heard from some people at oregon protests that our police are tired of ICE. Doesn’t mean all of them, but this legal backstop we have sort of annoys them enough to hate ICE.

There are also laws protecting people from any arrest while at a court hearing, such as citizenship things, but we’ll see if those hold up.
There isn’t enough support for revolution despite what many people here believe.
Internal violence is always used by fascists to consolidate power. So people who aren’t stupid don’t use it. Shooting an ICE agent would be used to expand their protection for example.
There isn’t more ‘somethings’ to do. Voting and protesting is all we really have.
The problem is a large portion of this country is actually supportive of what’s happening. People who are mad are a minority.

You would do the same if you were a US citizen. Talking tough from a distance is just as pathetic as our inaction and general inability to magically fix our country. Waiting for elections and not escalating beyond peaceful protests is all we can do without handing them the propaganda they need. Peaceful includes open carrying like the black panthers.

We have our clients switch to Linux now. Ignition works well enough and it’s so much cheaper. It has drawbacks compared to wonderware, or the Siemens stack though. But I’ll take those issues over logging into their systems still running on winXP.
The slowness was mostly a hardware issue. It’s basically like driving a second monitor, and a lot of the slower phones struggled with it early on.

Improved efficiency would reduce the catastrophic energy demands LLMs will have in the future. Assuming your reality comes true it would help reduce their environmental impact.
We’ll see. This isn’t first “it’s the future” technology I’ve seen and I’m barely 40.
I’ll take a step back. These LLM models are interesting. They are being trained in interesting new ways. They are becoming more ‘accurate’, I guess. ‘Accuracy’ is very subjective and can be manipulated.
Machine learning is still the same though.
LLMs still will never expand beyond their inputs.
My point is it’s not early anymore. We are near or past the peak of LLM development. The extreme amount of resources being thrown at it is the sign that we are near the end.
That sub should not be used to justify anything, just like any subreddit at any point in time.
We are all arguing different hypotheticals. My problem is my personal experiences.
