Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are the best unbiased (as much as its realistic i guess) investigative journalism organizations worth financially supporting?
2·15 days agoI would not have though of that. That’s a very good recommendation! Thanks!

12·15 days agoMany ROMs do that and allow you to install in a large number of phones from different manufacturers. For now, if you want GOS, you are forced to get a google phone.

1·15 days agoIt’s not the only device you can relock the bootloader. I am typing from a Fairphone using e/os with a bootloader I locked after installing it.
I don’t cut corners on my morals, so will never give money to google. Even indirectly by buying second hand and making their phones more attractive to buy.

1·15 days agoI get that. And I did not want to generalise so much but I guess I did.
I do think its the minority of Grapheme users that are culty to be fair. And the main GOS dev from what I’ve seen online.
In terms of smoothness, my wife is very non techy and immediately gets frustrated when tech doesn’t work. She (and I) uses a Fairphone 6 with e/os and the experience is very smooth.

3·15 days agoI think that’s a better way of explaining what I meant with unbiased. It was an oversimplification on my side.

1·15 days agoI can totally get that. Things can be very confusing the first time around.
Well, eventually when you need a new phone, might I suggest a Fairphone with e/os?

613·15 days agoThat is exactly what I have. I am not willing to compromise my ethical values and to give money to a truly evil company.
I just find it hypocritical that GOS requires Google made phones and at the same time says its a bad company.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are the best unbiased (as much as its realistic i guess) investigative journalism organizations worth financially supporting?
2·15 days agoYes, but it is also important to financially support good journalism. That is what I am looking for in this post. That does not mean it is the only source of news one should read.

Technology@lemmy.world•GrapheneOS says Google is making life harder for rival operating systems and devicesEnglish
148·15 days agoTo be honest, I think for the average user most ROMs are more than secure enough. And from a privacy perspective a lot of the de googled ones are very good.
Grapheme has almost a cult following in a way that its all or nothing.
I’d rather give up a bit on security while preserving privacy, if it means my money does not support terrible companies.

At least soon there will be support for Motorola.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are the best unbiased (as much as its realistic i guess) investigative journalism organizations worth financially supporting?
4·15 days agoI am well aware of the Overton window. I also agree that centrist objectivity is also BS. Also, “both sides are bad rhetoric” is in part what has enabled the rise of racism in the world again.
I still think there can be journalists who do their best to hold all power to account with the or reporting.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are the best unbiased (as much as its realistic i guess) investigative journalism organizations worth financially supporting?
2·15 days agoThat is true, but there are people who are aware of that and try as much as possible to mitigate it. Where others go full on in trying to confirm their bias as much as possible.

2·15 days agoI agree. I am looking for journalism that it is aware of their bias and is going the beat they can to mitigate it.

21·15 days agoWhat I mean is a source that is equally likely to criticise and bring unethical shit to attention, regardless if it is being perpetrated by the left or the ruling class.

The only thing keeping me with Plex (bought lifetime like 10 years ago) is that I serve content to elderly family members in two different countries other than the one I live in.
Otherwise I’d be Jellyfin all the way!
