from my point of view it feels like most people are willing to trade their cognitive function for being lazy, which is a boundary i never want to cross.

AI will produce a lot of code but most of it is pretty poor quality as most training data is going to be poor quality code, there’s just always going to be more bad code than good to begin with just due to how difficult quality code really is to produce. I’ll give a hint, good code is usually small and succinct.

since my work started pushing AI live site issues have increased dramatically. turns out the person using AI looks like they have a ton more productivity but in reality that just shifts to whoever is reviewing the code. and to those who will say its the developer’s responsibility to review the code, yeah no shit, but if you ever work corporate you realize most don’t care as long as their managers think they are productive and just blame others for being bottlenecks.

Overall it just enlightened me to how bad the average developer really is, but i guess obtaining mediocrity is the sacrifice to make in the name of “productivity”.

for the people that doubt this I’ll share my first hand experience. i grew up in a very religious conservative house. i got into an argument when i was a teenager with my dad about my own personal autonomy. basically about not being allowed to do things that actually make my life more positive, like having friends he disapproved of or listening to the music i liked. afterwards i talked to my mother about how she puts up with him and his controlling behavior. she basically said, ‘you and i are his property we have to do what he says because God.’ that was the day i left religion and conservative ideas; realized it was all just about having power over others.

he gives a pretty reasonable solution at the end? basically his point is the implementation is problematic and causes churn for everyone who uses git and if the concern is really about security then they would allow swapping out the verification hash instead of hard coding it again and waiting for 256 to be broken.

I’ve felt similar in the past but I’ve come to see it more as trying to spark interest. as a child of the 90s the thing that got me into the sciences was how cool it was portrayed in the media, from bill nye to movies like hackers.

5g is rebranded 4g during the rollout for 4g most providers couldn’t hit the bandwidth targets so they branded things 4g LTE or 4g+ to denote it wasn’t actual 4g. when they caught up and could actually support 4g they realized everyone thought lte or + were better because of course more things = better so they just changed it to 5g
