  • I have a friend who was part of their 1900 layoff shortly after acquiring Blizzard in 2024. Basically, brought into a meeting and then no more job.

She learned last week that every single person who remained in her former group except one had been laid off in this last round. We’re talking about people who had been with Blizzard for years and years and had been happy with their jobs and loved even playing the games that they were making. Just poof! Gone.

The layoffs have been asinine enough, but the completely tone-deaf response from one of their leaders saying “use AI to help with the trauma of job loss” has just been the icing on the cake.

  • It comes down to the variable weather in the US versus the UK.

The UK has maybe handful of weeks of actual hot weather, months and months of rain, and then some weeks of bitter cold. The day is more important than the month who cares if it’s March or September? It’s another day of rain and grey.

The US has extreme weather changes across the year, especially in the northeast where differences in US and UK English first began to diverge, intentionally and unintentionally. In a state like Massachusetts, knowing the month is important for things like setting the scene in letters “home” and so forth. The summer months and grossly hot. The fall/autumn is full of brilliant colors and mild weather followed by months of bitter, unrelenting cold winter. The spring months yield to green and mild weather again. Knowing that the month is April is very important because the 4th of April is going to be incredibly different from the 4th of September.

  • The Second Lady had planned to visit the Danish territory this week alongside other senior US government figures in a visit that had been described as a “provocation” by Greenland’s acting head of government Mute Egede.

It was later announced that JD Vance would be joining his wife on the visit, which was set to come after months of the Trump administration voicing their desire to take over the territory.

Usha Vance had been set to spend several days in Greenland on a “cultural visit.”

However, changes were subsequently made to the trip, which the White House confirmed on Tuesday would only involve the Vances visiting the US Pituffik Space Base, on the north-western coast.

Now, Danish broadcaster TV2 has reported that part of Mrs Vance’s visit to the capital of Nuuk was cancelled after US representatives failed to find any locals who wanted to greet the Second Lady.

Seriously though, why would anyone think this was a good idea in the first place? First off, I didn’t even know the “Second Lady” really did anything like this kind of stuff at all, and secondly, why would locals care about someone who is essential a random foreigner coming to pave the way for chaos?

She’s not Princess Diana. Five years ago, her husband was a certified nobody and now they want to drum up flowers and cheers from locals in another country for the wife of someone who is a half-step from being just some random NPC?
