71·4 days agoNah, he’s gotta live long enough to be impeached, removed, and imprisoned. Gotta live ling enough to rot in jail and watch his empire crumble into nothingness. Gotta live long enough to see every instance of his name removed, his children jailed and broke, his legacy ash.

While the text of the law doesn’t seem especially egregious, we’ll have to wait and see how it is enforced. The treatment of minorities by China in the past has been fraught with… well imprisonment, torture, and erasure of their communities. Kind of like the US and Canada, but worse and on a bigger scale.
Probably just more of the same, honestly. My biggest concern is this:

I have a friend that works in the film industry. He’s real talented, and has trouble finding work. So sometimes I feel a pang of regret, pirating stuff. When technofascists get so mad about people being against them, that they turn the internet off, I’ll be sitting pretty with my external hard drive stuffed to the brim with all sorts of awesome stuff to watch.

I did that once upon a time. I look back on those moments with a mix of shame and pity for my younger self. It feels better to engage with people sincerely, especially because of the historical times we’re living in.
It’s because one, he has control over, so naturally, gotta put a stop to that. The other, he’s sure won’t happen, so it’s safe to “support” it, in order to entice rubes into voting for him.

jesus I buy older model phones so I don’t have to deal with the enormous price tag. Samsung Galaxy S10 with headphone jack and removable SD card, got it for $150. Who tf still buying new phones? even worse, who’s paying 3 times as much for a phone that does so much less? I’d love a digital detox thing, but I like having google maps on my phone
