Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft keeps shooting itself in the foot with EdgeEnglish
71·2 年前On mobile, when everyone was releasing their new voice assistant technologies, Cortana outperformed them all. On desktop I agree that Cortana was a waste of space.

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft keeps shooting itself in the foot with EdgeEnglish
649·2 年前I’ve been a MS products fan since Windows Phone, Cortana, and OneNote stole my heart. I loved the great features that Windows 10 and Edge provided out-of-the box. Bing provided better results than Google for some time.
But Phone was never accepted by the market, and with it, Cortana faded away. OneNote hasn’t kept up with the market, and they somehow broke the cursor on mobile. Sticky Notes lost compatibility with Dark Mode. They started pushing ads to Windows start menu, and embedded ads in Edge Collections.
Microsoft makes great software, then fuck it all up. Oh well, back to Linux.

politics @lemmy.world•California law banning guns in certain public places temporarily halted by judge
11·2 年前Like I said your original request (statistics of “legal” CCW permit holder, without premeditation, discharging a firearm, in California) is incredibly specific, making it very difficult to find quality research. But here’s what I was able to find for you:
Johns Hopkins has this: https://publichealth.jhu.edu/2022/study-finds-significant-increase-in-firearm-assaults-in-states-that-relaxed-conceal-carry-permit-restrictions
This one includes some good details as to why these studies are challenging, and what causes errors in the data: https://www.rand.org/research/gun-policy/analysis/concealed-carry/violent-crime.html
Here’s a summary from GVPedia (note the sources in the footnotes): https://crimeresearch.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/GVPedia-Permitless-Carry-Factsheet-Feb2022.pdf
Hopes this helps.

38·2 年前I have no idea, that’s a very specific and difficult statistic to try and research. Do you have the answer?
hmmm. Sounds like something an insurrectionist would say.

Rep. Tony Lovasco, a Republican from the St. Louis suburb of O’Fallon. “Generally speaking, we don’t charge people with crimes because we think they’re going to hurt someone.”
Too much to unpack here.
