  • If you’re a guest in a country, don’t be a shithead.

If you and your countrymen are consistently shitheads to another specific country and their citizens when a guest in said specific country, they’re liable to start changing things to discourage you from coming in the first place, or even make rules to discourage you from visiting in the first place. You are a guest. Fucking act like it.

The sakura festival went of without a hitch for decades. This is a recent development that came with Chinese tourists beginning to go to the festival a lot more. When you are a tourist, the onus is on you to do some prep work and understand any preparations you should be making. Shitting in someone’s yard is indefensible; a reasonable preparation for the festival is “take a shit at your hotel before going to the festival”. I do not understand why you find this hard to parse.

It’s not prejudice. It’s common sense and actuarials.

  • Can confirm. Decided to pop for a base MBA, but with 32g ram, about a year ago, and it’s fantastic. Unbelievable battery efficiency, completely silent (passively cooled), and still decently performant for when I want to compile something/do a cpu intensive thing. I’ve used MBPs as corp-issue dev machines for nearly a decade and a half now, so I’m quite comfortable in the ecosystem.

I still have my old T14g2 running fedora, though (in addition to a plethora of non-mobile systems). Also snagged one of those silly-cheap Acer laptops with a fairly late model i3 in it, because it was $200 and had a SODIMM and m.2 slot, just as a spare/extra (it’s running kinoite)

  • If you go to a us dealership, there’s pretty much always some sort of financing deal or somesuch. But there’s also very often a “dealer markup”. Never, ever pay that.

That said, for some cars, they refuse to budge on that. For instance, when the new Nissan Z came out a few years ago, the dealers tacked on like 10-15k pretty much across the board, and then Nissan corporate was surprised when it didn’t sell too well… because the dealerships got too fucking greedy.

If I needed to buy a new car, I’d vastly prefer to just spec it out online, click “order”, and then have a text come in when it arrives at my local Nissan or BMW or Hyundai maintenance facility (as appropriate for the car). I do not want to talk to a human and have to literally socially engineer them into giving me a fair fucking price. Jesus christ.
