United States | News & Politics@lemmy.ml•Holocaust museum LA retracts their recent statement saying "Never again can't only mean never again for Jews" to support the Israeli Holocaust of Palestinians
161·4 months agoThe language in this is almost hilarious in just how hard they’re trying to throw someone under the bus. This was something they thought of, and pre-planned what, before the genocide? And then they have taken actions internally and fired so-and-so for it because it was all their fault!? Gosh, what a pickle!

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you pronounce the word “data” like the Star Trek character? (Day-ta)
4·9 months agoI know it’s me just being a particular asshole, but I really don’t like the pronunciation data… it’s honestly tiresome, problematic, and outdated. It’s pronounced DATA.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do people insist on not answering ALL the questions in an email or text message?
61·9 months agoI have the same question, as I will receive replies through text messages that are like this:
Me: hey! Are we still meeting today? Where would be good for you? I’m open from 10am until 6pm so just let me know when works best.
Them: I can still meet today
I get responses like this all the time, and I don’t feel like my initial text is too much.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's an absurd luxury you pine for?
1·9 months agoI bought a tabletop ice maker from Costco for $80 three years ago, and have never ever regretted it. It doesn’t pull a lot of power and works pretty fast.
The downside is cleaning it, it’s cheap so you can’t easily break it down and rebuild it, so you’ve got to get creative.
Edit: I see you said “nugget” now, (which I don’t exactly know what that means), but these ice pieces are not rock hard like refrigerator ice, fwiw.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's the wildest book you've ever read?
7·1 year agoPearl by Josh Malerman (Bird Box).
It’s about a pig on a small farm that can seep into your mind and make you do and see terrible things. I picked it up after reading Bird Box and a few other books of his, which I enjoyed. I expected to give up on it based on the silly 80s horror movie premise, but the book is truly demented and creepy and I felt existentially weird after reading it

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•I hate people like thisEnglish
10·1 year agoFucking SAME. I bartended and served through college (my degree doesn’t pay well due to YouTube tutorials that have flourished in my industry, lol ouch) and after, and then finally at 30 I started temping in manufacturing, which led to me permanently hired at a huge company with ridiculous benefits, and am now a supervisor in engine assembly that will make 6 figures in 3 years.
I desperately wish I had gone into trade school when I was 18.

World News@lemmy.world•Ryanair boss calls for two-drink limit at airports to tackle disorderEnglish
313·1 year ago“But we don’t allow people to drink-drive, yet we keep putting them up in aircraft at 33,000ft.”
Aaah, so the problem is drunk pilots. I can get behind a two-drink maximum for flying a plane. Although, in “Flight” the guy flew a plane upside down hammered…so maybe it should be a two-drink minimum to get maximum innovation.
ETA: I prob should have added /s

politics @lemmy.world•Trump aides alarmed he's 'just golfing all day and stewing' as election slips away: WaPo
2·1 year agoI honestly didn’t know who to write down, maybe Barron? He’s heard of Trump, maybe he would actually want to give a hand to such a wretched soggy being? Or, imagine he might be invited to caddy the clubs behind the cart?
I’ve thought about it, and I’m fairly certain that time travelers had to call it quits and agree worldwide to stop it. Like, every outcome was worse than the last. . And, that means that our current trajectory is somehow the least destructive.
