I’m just acclimating myself to Linux and attempting to learn how to get Wine working. I’m just done with this shit.

The people who are tuning out now are the ones who are active during the elections. We exhausted ourselves trying to get someone we didn’t really believe in elected president against someone we truly feared. And it was all for nothing because the Democratic party is incapable of appealing to the lower class.
I suspected we were in trouble when Kamala Harris embraced the endorsement from that absolute turd bag Dick Cheney and his equally shit daughter Liz. I saw Hillary try to pull the same stupid strategy back in 2016. They keep trying to lure Republicans to the Democratic side and it never never never works. Republicans do not care how “fiscally responsible” you tell them that you are. They will always vote for the person with the ® next to their name. And while the Democrats are doing that they are repelling just everyone on the left. Especially those who are poor and don’t give a shit how fiscally responsible you are they just want a break.
And now I really don’t have any faith in the Democratic party at all. I don’t think they’re as bad as Republicans but they sing their songs to the same tunes the Republicans do. Just with different lyrics.
Our governors are working hard to wall us off from the fascism.
So basically Bluesky is going to have to speedrun the first 5 years of Twitter.
It’s not “desperate single moms” that are stealing these things. These are often fairly organized groups that actually make their money by stealing people’s packages off of their porches and then reselling the items. And a few of them are just assholes looking to ruin somebody else’s day while making themselves a bit richer.
Your point is valid. Companies do use marketing to sell their products by using lots of outrageous claims. And my problem isn’t really what the companies it’s mostly with the people who are buying that bullshit.
P.S. your Coca-Cola example would have been better if you had reached back to their origins when they were sold as a tonic that cures just about everything. What they’re being sold as right now is just a soda and all of the current marketing around it is just nostalgia bait which everybody uses for everything especially around Christmas time.
The problem isn’t with the AI. It’s with how it’s being treated. It’s currently being sold as if it were general intelligence. Which it’s not. It should instead be treated like it’s a mindless tool. Something that is inert on its own. Useful for some things but only in a limited sense. Unfortunately the companies, who have spent millions of dollars developing these things, are trying to sell it as the “do-all” artificial intelligence that people have grown up seeing in sci-fi media. Which it 100% is not.
I would replace the word version with aspect. LLMs are merely one part of the puzzle that would be AI. Essentially what’s been constructed is the mouth and the part of the brain that can form words but without any of the reasoning or intelligence behind what the mouth says.
The same goes for the art AIs. They can paint pictures based on input but they can’t reason how those pictures should look. Which is why it requires so much tweaking to get them to output something that doesn’t look like it came out of a Lovecraft novel.
You should look up the last time the US employed massive tariffs in a trade war. Spoilers, it was just before the Great depression.
One word. Tesla.
It became the Apple of automobiles and everyone was rushing to copy them. Then came the fall of Elon and everyone is realizing how full of shit the company is.
Well, this is The Register. Not exactly a paragon of stellar reporting here.
He hopes that Trump, on the other hand, uses his business acumen to bring down the cost of the products he sells in his store, many of which are imported from overseas. “Trump is not perfect, but we have no choice,” he says.
Hashim’s other major concern is Gaza, where more than 42,000 people have been killed by Israeli attacks. “The No 1 reason [to not vote for Harris] is that she is supporting Israel 100%,” he said.
I don’t understand how someone this stupid is able to run a successful business. The high price of goods now is completely due to republican policies that have taken the brakes off of corporate price gouging and Trump has stated that not only is he 100% supportive of Israel but he will happily supercharge their genocide of the Palestinians in Gaza.
I don’t a totally think that’s a good idea. I was being pithy.
Competency and morality tests should be required

It’s just exactly like the people who saw “black lives matter” and thought they meant only black lives matter. They see the sign saying “not all men but always men” and ignored the first part and focused on the second part. Then proceeded to ignore the actual subject of the article (you know, the woman who was continually raped without her knowledge or consent for over 10 years by 50 or possibly more men and the fact that the defense is arguing that “maybe she secretly knew and liked it”). And are completely focused on being outraged by the sign.

Thanks! I will definitely do that. I’m not new to Linux but it’s been around 20 years since I last did anything with distros and I remember Wine being finicky as hell. Hopefully it has been somewhat tamed in the last 20 years. I’m starting basic AF with Ubuntu, though I did grab a copy of Mint to play with.
