Installation restriction at work. You may have rights to execute .exe but not to install app.
I also have a dozen of utility app I daily use (image viewer, PDF viewer, process killer, inkscape, gimp, etc…). I just have to zip my progs folder to backup and I won’t need to reinstall everything if my computer die (which happened last month BTW).

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Outside of politics, have you ever had a position on something that you have doubled down on and refused to move an inch on to the point of upsetting someone? Were you right?
33·1 month agoI said in a meeting “that’s a really bad idea”
They still did it.
During years, we had trouble with it. I kept saying “I told you it was a bad idea”.
After 6 years, they finally removed it. I said “well, I said it was a bad idea”.
I use to have that as teen after a “firework accident”. It fade year after year, now it don’t bother me anymore.

5·2 months agoSome friends had the ti89. It has basically the same features. The ti92/V200 screens are larger, and have a full qwerty keyboard which make them much user firendly, but as I remember, firmware were similar.

19·2 months agoI got a V200, the successor of ti92. Best device ever, so much power in that brick. I never found something equivalent on computer, except maybe wolfram alpha.
I’m just sad I never had to really use it in my work. Only time it could have been useful, it was dead 😥.

123·2 months agoYep, most of tracks were already available on “various” sources, but this time they directly scraped the whole Spotify database.
It’s really nice from them to backup Spotify database on a distributed system, and for free ! This ensure Spotify business won’t be endanger in case of critical hardware failure.
Yes, OP, your are rich. Not super rich, but clearly in upper class.
“Say you own 2 houses”. I’m in top 10% revenue in my country and I don’t even finished to pay for my 1st one. And I’m now regularly doing thing that I watched on TV as a kid thinking “Whoa, I wish I could do this ! but only rich people can :(…”

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Older people (30+) online, what would you advise younger generations in regards to life?
65·3 months agoSchool is the only place where we don’t expect you to be productive. It’s the only place where people spend time and money only for you, without expecting something in return. It’s the only place where we want you to think by yourself and not just be a workforce on a product line.
Think about this next time you’ll learn that mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What questions do teens (14-18yo) have about choosing a career path, or navigating school and education options?
2·4 months agoHi,
I think you may have a look to @BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today comment in this thread as he depict very well the choice you currently face.
You may also ask yourself how much important is your job for you. Some people don’t really care about their job. They see it just as a way to have money and enjoy their life through leisure activities, friends, family. They can do anything as long as it pay. Some people (like me) really need to enjoy their job. I need technical challenge and I couldn’t work in finance, politic, management, administrative, etc… even with better pay. So, do you think you can handle working on a field that’s just “meh…” and enjoy you life outside your job. Or do you think job is really an important part of your life.
Regarding your parents, they will be proud of you whatever you do as long as you are happy. So, don’t try to make THEM happy. Try to make YOU happy. And, you are not stuck in a field for you whole life. You can do a job that pay well at the beginning, and then reorient to a lower paid, but more interesting job. Reorientation is not easy, but it’s doable. Lot of people work 10 year in a stressed well paid field, to switch to raising goats in the wild when they turn 35/40yo.
Life is not a sprint. It’s a marathon. Hope this help.

That diploma doesn’t decide for the rest of your life. They (teachers, familly, etc…) put so much pressure on me to choose the “right” path that I was afraid of screwing my entire life if I didn’t took the right options at school. In the end, diploma choose for the first 5/10 years max. Then, it’s up to you to drive your own life.

7·4 months agoWell, I’ll try not to say they are the doomed generation 😅.
Do you also have that reflex to do Ctrl+z when you screw something in real life ? Like, you broke a glass, Ctrl+z. Oh shit, doesn’t works…

The kids aren’t alright, The Offspring https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iNbnineUCI
I listen it as a teen without understanding the lyrics (I’m French). Just figured out what it means a few years ago.
Mitsubishi i-MiEV/Peugeot Ion/Citroen C0 (same car, different branding). This car is awesome. Cheap, can park anywhere, nervous at the start, and surprisingly spacious for its tiny size. I already carried wooden planks of 2.4m (7.8 ft) inside. Too bad it is not produced anymore 😢
I don’t need to compensate with RAM or Dodge truck. The Peugeot is spacious enough to fit my two huge balls inside it.
