I’ve been thinking just how difficult it would be to coordinate a full national general strike, or even a statewide one. It seems like a possible way forward would be to target worker groups that would have a domino affect on other groups. For example, if you could get teachers, especially elementary level teachers, to strike, many of their parents would need to stay home due to lack of child care. I’m wondering if there are other union based groups that could have a similar effect.

I think Chicago is approaching those levels. Lots of ppl here would like to launch ICE and border patrol back to that pedo fuckface.

So well put. Like have we not learned how Trump’s main strategy is just to do what he wants and see what the courts say? You win either way. He hasn’t totally got his way with the National Guard in Chicago and Portland, but he still established federal control of the guard and pushed his power forward. Instead of hemming and hawing, levy the charges and tie up operations in the court system. Even if you lose, you delay the process.

Well, in a perfect world, where the POTUS is immune from prosecution when executing official acts, they could seize their assets. Would it ever happen? The only way I could envision is if the vast majority of the population supports (or is indifferent to) such an action. But hey, we currently have a $200b secret police force roaming the land, so maybe there’s a chance!

But seriously, an extreme wealth tax would be a step in the right direction.

Right? I see all of these “appeasement” style pieces trying to get us to feel some sort of vindication. It’s all bullshit.

I think it’s even simpler than this. I think any government/state/group with power wants to hold and expand it. I’m not sure there is a group of people that exist that wouldn’t work to exercise control if they could. And I’m not defending the US, I just think it may be an inherently human thing to do.

Tariffs=corruption. This is just one more grift for Trump et al. One more way for Trump to funnel money into his coffers.

Anyone come to mind that you can mention? I know his history of scamming, but to my knowledge, he takes advantage of those in a less powerful position (e.g. construction companies, students, etc.)

It is comforting to think of Trump as an idiot, and he may be, but don’t disregard that he has consistently shown that he is superb at manipulating systems. This strategy is the M.O. of the wealthy who can afford legal fees and cheat the system over and over and over again. Every one of these judicial ploys seems ridiculous in itself, but taken together, they show how he can just delay/bog down the system to HIS advantage. The courts have to play by the rules, were he does not. This guy will never serve time. The only way he would is if he pissed off OTHER WEALTHY PEOPLE.
